    I have a couple of series 2 boxes for sale...where are you? changing the gearbox is easy, getting the rusty bolts out of the seatbox is the tricky bit.....the last time i did one was extra fast as I needed a gearbox cross as well :)

    weirdly after various bits of cleaning it started ok today and managed 4 hours of off roading, stayed cool as well. If it wasn't for the snapped halfshafts it would have gone on longer.....was a great day though :)

    fuel delivery is fine, i had heard that these 3.9s suffer from vaporisation but i don't have a compression tester so cant test that....

    thanks slob, i checked and it seems fine. I have had all the plugs out and they were black and sooty but not wet / oily or washed clean by super heated water. i have the rocker covers off as well and no emulsified oil in there.

    The nut that the lock washer tab gets bent into....the bracket yo uare missing is the one that bolts to the vehicle right? clevis pin yo ucan get around with a nut and bolt. Oil should have been drained, thats obvious right? Do you have the thingy which makes a nice round circle on your gearbox...

    I have a 1977 range rover. I need to replace the alternator but the new terminals are different. There a re thee terminals on the back and i am stuck on two of them. I have a brown wire and a brown and yellow wire, anyone know which goes where. What happens if I put them on wrong way round...

    Does sound like fuel starvation to me. Rust in the tank as was already suggested junk in the glass bowl / sediment filter.     wd 40 is not a proper penetrating fluid...try plus gas its worth the extra money...heat would make a difference though (not straight ontop of the plus gas though!)
