Am I being daft getting a freelander?

I have the same debate with my wife, if a car breaks down for whatever reason, she instantly wants rid of it, & wants a new one. It’s lovely having a new car for the (hopefully) peace of mind, but I like to fix my cars myself in the event of a problem, it gives me greater confidence when I’m...

    Freelander 1 E10 vsE5 petrol ??

This is what is says on the Govt website :- —————————————————————————————————— Land Rover E10 petrol is cleared for use in all Land Rover vehicles with petrol engines starting from model year 1996.Older vehicles should continue to use E5. ——————————————————————————————————————————————————...

Freelander 1 Slave cylinder push rod extension ?

Thanks Nodge 68 & Andyfreelandy I’ll have a look at the master push rod. The hydraulics I bought a while ago now, weren’t particularly cheap & were from a reputable supplier, so I’d rather fix them than buy another unknown that might still give me the problem, sadly the car isn’t worth a great...

Freelander 1 Slave cylinder push rod extension ?

Thanks Andy, so if I go with the inch (25mm) at the slave it would be less than 4mm at the master ? It has a new bracket, new master & slave (as you will know they come as a couple) & the arm is free. It’s fine when the weather is cold it’s just when it’s hot weather, if it gets really hot when...

Freelander 1 Slave cylinder push rod extension ?

Hi All, I wonder if anyone could help me please ? I’ve been trailing thro the site threads to find some info about the clutch slave cylinder on my 1.8K FL1. I have the age old problem of difficulty engaging gears when it’s hot, & after trying several suggestions, & ideas of my own, I’m back to...

    Ignition key won’t turn

I only have one key for my 1.8K F1 & occasionally the key won’t turn in the ignition, but if I take the key out & turn it through 180 then re - insert, it works. Might be worth a try, (if you haven’t already ?)

    For Sale Freelander 1 Spares

Good luck Andy, your ( & Nodge’s ) on line assistance has been much appreciated in the past. You are too far away for me to use your new premises but hope it takes off. Rgds Stokeyboy

    Freelander 2 oil light

I’d still get it checked - as others have said on here, it might cost you a fortune if something is wrong but it might be a cheap fix & it’ll be worth it for the peace of mind.

    Freelander 2 oil light

I would think it’s easier to change a filter that’s high up on the engine as a lower filter will have more of a head of oil above it. You could try putting a container under the filter & carefully unscrewing it with the replacement ready to quickly put back on, but I couldn’t guarantee that you...

    Freelander 2 oil light

Ah that sounds more like an electrical fault to me, a dodgy connection or pressure switch perhaps ? But I’m not fully familiar with the layout of the FL2. If you still have the old filter you could empty it of old oil & refit it just to prove that I’m talking rubbish !

    Freelander 2 oil light

Some years ago a friend had the same problem with a VW Golf & it eventually transpired the shop had given him the wrong oil filter. It looked like the right one but one had an non return valve in & the other didn’t. I can’t remember which was the correct one, but might be best to check before...

Freelander 1 Clutch binding k series

Hi Martin, Any further updates, is it still as good as first thought ? I’ve taken the more difficult route & bought an MGF slave which I’m hoping to attach to a modified std spare Freelander bracket. If it looks like it’ll work I’ll buy a Sheddist master, a remote reservoir & a braided hose...

Freelander 1 Clutch binding k series

Thanks Norge 68, I’ll start looking for the bits & let the forum know how it goes. Point taken about the BMW bean counters, they spoiled what could have been a really good car, it makes you wonder if it was deliberate to make their cars look better ? Rgds Tom

Freelander 1 Clutch binding k series

Thanks, which Honda model master do I use ? Luckily I still have the std slave rod from the “exploded” slave cylinder, I rescued it from the road when it broke down, so I’ll use that if I get brave enough to try it. Rgds Tom

Freelander 1 Clutch binding k series

Yep let us know if it works, although I’m not sure when the next hot summer day will be to prove the theory, but the MG guys reckon you’ll notice the difference straight away. The only problem you may have from what I’ve read, is bleeding it can be problematic, so I’d allow plenty of time & pick...

Freelander 1 Clutch binding k series

I found these pictures of the mgf slave adaption onto an old bracket ( one compares it to the existing setup ) Just in case you fancy having a go at it, haven’t saved any pictures of the connection to the old pipe though. We might have no option but to shell out the £175 cos if it keeps...

Freelander 1 Clutch binding k series

I think the answer will be to buy either the Sheddist kit from Dark Ice Designs ( they’re on eBay ) or the same kit from Discount MG Rover spares but they’re both £175 + p&p. The MG guys fit them & reckon it transforms the gear change. I’ve also seen a thread on here I’m sure, where some use the...
