    Smoke after idle

Basically the diesel process is this : Piston comes up and compresses the air, in the process the air gets hot*. At (hopefully) the right point, the injection system sprays fuel into this hot air - and as long as the air is hot enough*, the fuel will spontaneously combust. The fuel is broken up...

    Smoke after idle

A bit of grey smoke on accelerating is normal.

    Smoke after idle

Ah, there shouldn't be anything in that hole. The 5 pedestals are all the same - 3 have studs in for the rocker cover nuts, one has a screw in that fixes the rocker shaft in place, and one has an empty hole.

    Smoke after idle

This is starting to sound "not good" and hints at some previous BIY maintenance. There's no way one of the rocker pedestal bolts could come out by it's own. And IIRC, aren't some of them also head bolts ?

Whats happened to the Landrover.net forum.

Well there is a tale, dunno if it's true or not, of a certain council imposing a mail content filter when they were still fairly new and crude - and then found ALL their email blocked. Where was this ? Scunthorpe of course :D

    Pipe identification.

Fram & Coopers are good makes - chances are that the one you can buy for several times the price and painted green comes from them. As to oil changes, yes the Rover V8 oil system has something of a reputation. The theory is that if you remove the oil filter while the sump is drained then the...

    Smoke after idle

At one time I was banished to the back on any green lane runs. The engine (2.5na) was "well worn" and when running at low power would "oil up" in the cylinders - then when I did apply power, the oil would burn off which at times could look like I was laying a smoke screen :D Same thing with an...

    Pipe identification.

Should be two pipes together under teh throttle body - one comes from the manifold and the other goes to the header tank. When running, coolant comes out of the manifold, through the heater unit under the throttle body, and then goes off to the header tank. The purpose is to avoid throttle body...

    Coolant/Anti-Freeze

Always use an antifreeze/corrosion inhibitor even if you are somewhere that never gets cold. Aluminium mixed with other metals is a great combination for electrolytic corrosion :(

Whats happened to the Landrover.net forum.

How's that happened then ? I assume it was bought fair and square - then someone has claimed a right to it ? There's a lot of shenanigans goes on with domain names if you don't keep on top of renewals  More like one of the pubs closing temporarily, and us having to use another pub in the...

Whats happened to the Landrover.net forum.

Well I see the domain has been renewed for 1 year. Curiously I've had a couple of emails notifying of replies to threads some time ago (one back into last year). But, I was only seeing the stickies and nothing else. Scroll down to near the bottom and under Thread Display Options, I found it set...

Whats happened to the Landrover.net forum.

I'm not sure how much work that'll be. I see that the server appears to be dedicated to the site and responds to other host names in the HTTP get, but when I load the page in a browser having setup hosts file entries to suit, it seems to throw a load of missing images for me. Not sure why, as...

Whats happened to the Landrover.net forum.

Sandy, do you have any contact with the people who would have registered the domain and/or paid for the hosting ? As per my previous email, if the registrant will co-operate then the domain is retrievable (I'll pay for a years registration if needed), and if whoever pays (paid) for the hosting...

Whats happened to the Landrover.net forum.

OK, it's great that you knew the address ! It proves that the hosting is still working, and a whois on the address shows that the hosting is with RapidSwitch. As it's an area I sort of deal with in the day job, perhaps I can explain what's needed now - and what'll happen if it doesn't happen...
