    Electrical Gremlins

The plot thickened when the indicators started playing up. I replaced both front bulb holders and cleaned all the contacts. This helped. Then, today, I daisy chained a new earth strap from the t-box to the chassis. Bingo. The electrical response has never been so healthy! Thank you to everyone...

    Electrical Gremlins

Right, no joy, I’m afraid. I checked and cleaned the earth points, the alternator and the battery. I then went for a short drive keeping an eye on the voltmeter. It was looking good until I turned the lights on. This caused the voltmeter to dive to zero... I’m stumped!

    Electrical Gremlins

Afternoon, All. Last night my Defender displayed a new one on me. It had been sat parked up for an hour or so and when I went to restart it it fired up and ran fine, but the lights were dim and flickered, sometimes returning to full brightness, but not for long. Also, anything electrical was...

    Clutch Pedal Box Overhaul

Thank you. Yes I’ve got the later box, but the trunion and bushes are worn. I’m a bit woolly on what bushes are needed, although it’s obviously one trunion!

    Clutch Pedal Box Overhaul

Evening, All. I’m about to replace my clutch master cylinder and want to overhaul the pedal box while I’m at it. Do I need a trunion and bushes? Is there a handy service kit? It all seems pretty worn in there, so I’d like to refresh the box while it’s out. Many thanks, Dom

    Part Query - Side Steps

It's flat across the top, then curved down the sides, with one leg being longer than the other. (The outside one in the case of the cap I'm missing.)

    Part Query - Side Steps

Evening, All. My Defender has these fitted: https://www.lrparts.net/black-dual-moulded-rubber-top-side-steps-defender-90-oem-equipment-original-image-shows-similar-pair-fitted-to-90.html One of the plastic end caps has departed from the outer near side and I’m after a spare. I can’t find...

    Snapped fanbelt

All done. The RAC man was a star and I’m up and running again. Thanks for all your advice.

    Snapped fanbelt

Thank you. I phoned the RAC to say I had sourced the part from Euro Carparts and that they could collect it on their way to me, as advised by the guy who attended today. However, I was told the RAC must source their own parts and that the mechanic would not be allowed to collect the part...

    Snapped fanbelt

I’ve managed to work round it for this evening, the RAC are coming tomorrow to fit a belt, but I need to supply it. Apparently, Euro Carparts can get one, but I’m not sure what to order! The belt measured 1025 mm and it looks like a V belt is needed.

    The Next Problem...

Dear All, My 90 200 Tdi has been sulking lately and throwing a series of problems at me. As soon as I sort one out, another comes along... Anyway, the latest issue involves a scraping noise from under the car when parked up and about to turn off the engine. The noise is accompanied by the...

    Gear Changing Issue

Everything replaced and refreshed, including thread lock on the grub screw. After adjusting the bias spring a few times the gear change is much more precise and reliable. Hopefully all is good for the next 25 years! Thank you for all your help. Much appreciated.
