    Defender 90 Vibration

Cheers for your input. It’s a difficult one cos it doesn’t happen all the time. Like I say, for the first 20 mins, no issues, then it starts. Since having all the work done on the front last week, I’ve done about 400 miles (300 on motorway) and it’s driven perfectly. It was on this morning the...

    Defender 90 Vibration

Not sure about steering damper, I’ll find out tomorrow. There’s no wobble through the steering wheel, it’s the whole car that’s vibrating. Wheels balanced about three months ago when the new tyres were fitted.

    Defender 90 Vibration

I totally agree about the prop shaft comment. Before the work was done I took the front prop off, ran the car, problem still there. Refitted it, back one off, ran the car, problem still there. So I’m not too confident on that one. Problem seems to occur after about 20mins or 10 miles from start up.

    Defender 90 Vibration

I didn’t do the work myself, it’s being looked at tomorrow by the guy that did it. He’s a top bloke, only works on defenders, knows his stuff. I was a bit concerned that a new/exchange diff on the front would put a strain on the rear diff or transfer box. It went in originally cos the half...

    Defender 90 Vibration

It was fine when I had it back a week ago. Problem has only just come back today. I've done 400miles since work was done no problem. Hard to put on a rolling road without removing propshaft.

    Defender 90 Vibration

I'm pretty new to this so bear with me. I've had a bit of work done on my 2005 TD5 90 recently including rear calipers, discs, pads, wheel bearings, stub axles and everything on the front axle inc calipers, discs, pads, diff, wheel bearings, swivel housings, shafts. Now I've got a quite severe...

    Freelander 2 Engine Trouble

An update for those that are interested. I have now sent the car to a 4 x 4 garage who work on a lot of Land Rovers. The usual things like the Fuel Injectors, Camshaft & Swirl Flaps have been checked and they are all OK. Engine codes have obviously been read and there are no faults showing. I...

    Freelander 2 Engine Trouble

Maybe someone out there knows of any mechanics/garages that just work on Land Rovers in the Birmingham area?

    Freelander 2 Engine Trouble

It's a diesel. I may have misled you with the cardboard & peg scenario, it's definately a metallic noise. I'm no mechanic but it sounds like there is no oil in the engine. To me, it sounds like the cam is making a 'clicking' noise. It gets faster when revved. Cheers davidsmith 1307, I will have...

    Freelander 2 Engine Trouble

Would the cam sensor failing make it sound like a tractor? I can understand it sounding lumpy, but, this sounds a bit like when you used to peg a bit of cardboard onto the back of the old BMX!!!!

    Freelander 2 Engine Trouble

Nice one. So you mean the camshaft at the top of the engine then? Surely if this broke, it wouldn't start at all or at the very least it would sound a little worse than lumpy?

    Freelander 2 Engine Trouble

Wow!! I'm no mechanic but have a basic knowledge. What are swirl flaps? and whats an exhaust cam?

    Freelander 2 Engine Trouble

There are no lights coming on to signify a fault. Only 50,000 miles on clock. I'll get engine codes read in the morning. I'm just a bit wary that i'm in the hands of wherever it goes and so I was just trying to get a 'heads up' first.

    Freelander 2 Engine Trouble

I wonder if anyone can help with a problem I have with my Freelander 2. It's a 2009 which I bought from new, looked after and serviced yearly. Whilst driving the other day, noticed a rather loud 'cammy' noise suddenly appear. Obvious thing to do was to check the oil which was a bit low (min on...

    TD5 Cuts out whilst driving

Well, it's been a week now and i've done a good 200 miles with no problems. All I did was pull out the relays, clean contacts & twist spade connectors a bit (to get a better fit). It might be in my head but, there was 'cammy' sound about 50% of the time whilst driving before. This would...

    TD5 Cuts out whilst driving

Yesterday my TD5 Defender 90 wouldn't start. It was turning over fine but wouldn't 'catch' if you know what I mean. I noticed that the orange engine management light and the glowplug light weren't coming on, but the red oil, battery & handbrake light were lit as normal. Feeling this was some...
