    According to my recent MOT certificate, the above item is “severely deteriorated” on one side. The mechanic advised me to get it sorted ASAP or “it would bite” me, so I’m assuming it’s something like a CV boot where you want to replace the rubber before the joint itself gets damaged by incoming...

    Already ordered, given the price. Though the appeal of getting under the car in the dark after a long day at work is not high. And whoever designed the bumper so that it hides the mounting points for the under-tray deserves a slap... No South Coast users with garage recommendations, then? ;) Pete

    It's a thought. I wonder if there's a way to put a multimeter on the circuit and see what current it's pulling? Unfortunately I don't have a clamp meter I can just put round a wire... Pete

    So we think the injectors might be faulty in a different way to what the leak-off test shows up? I've seen some "re-con" injectors on eBay for pretty good prices - but maybe the only reconditioning they got was a quick wash...? Pete

    I skipped the EGR stuff, I already have mine bypassed. But his testing of the camshaft sensor involved freezing it to make it work, whereas in a warm engine it did not. Mine is the other way round, it works when the engine's warm but not when it's cold. Pete

    Thanks guys - just got the shaft off with the chisel technique :-) The chisel didn't escape unharmed though - this was straight when I started: No way the bearings are coming off, so I'm going to leave them for the reconditioner to deal with. Sure he's better equipped for the job than me...

    The Haynes book shows the rails as "official" jacking points, as well as the pressed-in mark in the middle of the rear cross-member thing, and the lashing point at the front. Can't see how you'd bust an outrigger by lifting on the rails. Anyway, it's done now :). All off the car without too...

    Hmm, cunning plan. Trolley jack under the middle of the "chassis" rail, I guess, lift it, then one axle stand at each end? I'd have to move the jack out of the way to get good working access, but maybe that frees it up to be a VCU support anyway. Pete

    Ok - so I'd need to roll it forwards a foot or two to get at the other side of the shaft. I think that's a bit far for my concrete blocks, so I'll stick with the jack and stands. Pete
