    It's a standard 200tdi Defender engine in a 1990 Defender. If there is no 'standard' layout, then fair enough, but I've only got one to judge it by.

    Me too. I know the size of the tank, and I know the milage, so I can get 450 miles on a tank. The gauge is just an indication, as far as I'm concerned.

    It's hard to get accurate numbers, but from what I understand the LR engine/gearbox/fuel/exhaust system weighs about 350kg, and the Leaf system including batteries weighs about 350kg.     Thanks. The airflow increases if I wind the window down (you know, when it's hot and I don't want the heater blowing hot air onto my legs :( ) so I expect it's just something I'll have to put with.

The seals seem fine, i.e. we're not drawing in air from the engine compartment, and the air flow when static varies according to the number set on the fan control. Temperature control is set to cold.     Are there more than one type of 200tdi? So, the one with the curly turbo on the left side of the engine is the one in my Defender. Others seem to have a flat plate (heat shield?) across from the rocker cover. Are they both 200 tdi's? Will they both fit into a 1991 Defender?

    Seized, apparently. Won't turn over at all. Going to drop a second hand engine in it to tide me over . Been offered about £1200 for someone to install it; how does that sound?
