    TD5 Stripdown and rebuild

Thanks for the feedback. Bit more work to do but it will have to wait a couple of weeks. I have a theory that more 15P heads will need repairing as more injector seals are changed and the plunger gap is set to low. I've backed my adjusting screws back 2 turns not 1 seemed to be ok, it's dead...

TD5 Not starting after changing injector seals

Just curious if they let you have the old ones back. Pretty low mileage for all of them to go bad! But I guess if its fixed now then thats that.

    Britpart stupidity

Yes totally agree, before I bought my new rear air springs I called the supplier, established they were def made by Conti and placed the order. I was a bit miffed when they arrived in Britpart boxes but they were the right part with Conti markings so no problem :)

What mileage is your Disco 1 on?

172K miles so far, ive put 14K on her since I got her last August. I did the injector seals and full service 12K ago, she hasnt put a foot wrong since. Just had new gear and t.box fitted, planned maintenance rather than faulty. Cant believe Im now doing her 2nd service in less that a year!

    Britpart stupidity

Do Britpart make parts for "trucks":o They do seem to have a pretty shocking reputation, depending on who you talk to! Personally I use decent OEM or official LR parts, its just not worth buy poor quality/cheap parts. But thats just my opinion!

had to push disco away from asda fuel pump

Haven't they (ASDA and LR) heard about CE testing and marking? When CE for testing for electromagnetic interference came in over 10 years ago, cell phones were often cited as big culprits for causing EM problems, hospitals banned them as they were again cited as causing problems, in fact after...

BHP change for TD5 centre box delete

Hi Steve IIRC It was a "factory" option £400 I think, but was actually done by the dealer. Yes a simple remap but the insurance co listed it as a modification, hence premium bump!

BHP change for TD5 centre box delete

Probably doesnt make a blind bit of difference power wise, but it may make a huge difference to your premium, as soon as the "any modifications?" box gets ticked! But not all insurance Co's are the same. Remember the fiasco a few years ago when some people felt they had to tell their insurer...

    Running a TD5 without a viscous fan?

Warms up very nicely when Im on the move, usually sits at just above centre mark. I sell temperature sensors and loggers so if im feeling a bit anoraky ill set one up to monitor the temp for a few days.

    Running a TD5 without a viscous fan?

My fan is coming off next weekend! We sat with the engine idling for 45 mins the other week, the temp gauge barely moved off the blue. Ambient was temp was low, 4-5 deg but it certainly comes across as being over cooled for normal UK use.

Mud n Grass, best driving method?

Cheers guys! Customers field, so I didnt want to mash it up, or scare the sheep! Ok I dont feel too bad now! I know the tyres were not good for soft mud, we had been in some worse looking stuff that day with no probs but that was just mud, water and rocks, coped very well. The deep ruts...

Mud n Grass, best driving method?

Hi I dont do a lot of off-road driving, it showed last week when I managed to get stuck in what looked like a fairly benign field! After walking the ground, we drove in, to park the car off a narrow track. It was at the top of a hill, bit damp but not too soft. Tyres are Grabber AT,s...

    disco 2 fuel problems

If the seals have got very bad you may want to check your oil for diesel, mine had a strong diesel smell before I changed my seals, changed oil afterwards.

    What's good about a disco??

+1 ! I like the "naked" look of my Commercial, no roof rails or side steps, moved the spare inside, removed carrier, much cleaner looking and yes almost as good as a D3:)

    What's good about a disco??

I was about to start a "reasons why I love my Disco" thread! Heres a few: last Monday, picked up car after new gearbox and t.box fitted by Ashcrofts, drove to Girvan, Scotland that night. Tuesday, drove round various bits of Girvan installing equipment, got stuck in a field, used winch, got...
