Freelander 1 L series not cranking

Latest issue with the L series. Starter not turning over. Immobiliser light is off, locked and relocked car. Red light goes on and then back off. Tapped starter motor with medium size Tonya Harding and drift bar. Nothing. Checked relays under steering wheel, swapped a few around, could feel...

Freelander 1 L series and Nanocom

Thanks Grumpy, I'll take a look in to it, sent the car off to have its codes read today so will find out in the morning to see what's up definitively, hopefully! I took it for a run to the garage earlier and it feels great to drive, less wallowy than my old K series. The L series isn't what I'd...

Freelander 1 L series and Nanocom

Funny you mention this, I went to the scrap yard today and there was a TD5 disco 2 with the same type modulator and pump unit. I didnt buy it because I wasnt sure but ive been through everything and it all checks out so must be the modulator. Going on from my reply to Grumpy gel, does the...

Freelander 1 L series and Nanocom

Thanks Nodge, I'm pretty handy with a Fluke, just lazy and want to see if my nanocom is any use before I crawl around the car to diagnose the wheel sensors :D

Freelander 1 L series and Nanocom

Trying to diagnose a 3 amigos on my 50th anniversary L series diesel. I have had a little read through and seen that the OBD can't be read by a standard reader. Can it be done by the nanocom? I have one set up for a P38, when I use the ODB vehicle selection, it can't recognise the car. Anyone...

Freelander 1 I've done it again! 50th Anniversary edition this time

Thanks for the heads up on the belts and tensioner, I'll replace all the belts while I'm at it then. I'll probably pull the engine out anyway to do the idler pulley bolt. Understood on the interference, hopefully I won't make it any worse then!

Freelander 1 I've done it again! 50th Anniversary edition this time

Well, I didn't think it would last long to be honest. I used to enjoy my K series Turbo Freelander a lot. I was offered the chance to buy a 50th anniversary edition XEDi 5 Dr Freelander for £200. How could I say no? It's going to be the mother in laws car, hopefully my inside knowledge and...

The shopping list has been building, Fuel tank ordered rear quarter chassis ordered, dumb irons already in the garage New autosparks loom with all the extras! Buzzweld paint, I have gone for CIO as my top coat for now, we'll see how the budget holds! Synchro gearbox LT76 spares kit for the...

Series 3 A 40th birthday strip down for my S3

Thats my worry! Although I don't plan to make this chassis last forever, hopefully 5 years or so until I can have my garage finished and comfortable and a nice place to work from, for now it's just getting it back to being safe on the road. There aren't any repairs to the chassis main section...

Series 3 A 40th birthday strip down for my S3

Nothing happened today due to the wife wanting me to do some landscaping but yesterday, I started cleaning up the outside of the chassis and setting up my new toy... plasma cutter! I thought it is about time that I got one. The series is the perfect excuse. Don't worry about my bare hand, the...

Series 3 A 40th birthday strip down for my S3

I've decided now is a good time to strip down the S3, bit of spare cash and I've ben nagging the wife for ages about letting me take some time from my building work around the farm. My garage is one of the buildings on the rebuild list so while it's drier than other times of the year I decided...

    Series 3 Anyone running an OM606 in a S3?

That's a good point about the low down torque, just looking at it's power curve, it doesn't do much til about 3000rpm! I didn't think about that, it would have to used as more of a road vehicle than an off roader in that case. With regards to length, I was thinking of cheating slightly and look...

    Series 3 Anyone running an OM606 in a S3?

My garage is being built this summer, which means then it's time to rebuild the series 3. I want to "restomod", I'm going to be looking at upgrading it to meet modern driving without losing it's feel and charm. Nothing from the outside will be changed, I'd like to go back to the original...

Freelander 1 K series head refit

:eek::eek: :D:D:D If it blows up, it gives me a good excuse to take my freelander off the wife and get it prepped for hill climb like I originally planned.

Freelander 1 K series head refit

Im ashamed to say this isn't my first! Engine is all back together minus fluids. Barred it over and all ok. It was just that moment of, I need moral support, is that right whilst rushing the engine together.

Freelander 1 K series head refit

I was hoping you'd be around! Thank you so much. I assumed there would be valves open because its 4 stroke and timed at 90 degrees tdc as you say. Just im rushing and very aware that it could be a major problem if I didnt ask the question when I had the chance. Thank you so much!

Freelander 1 K series head refit

And just to confirm because I wanted to double check, the pin for the intake cam is in the IN posittion and Exhaust cam is in the EX position.

Freelander 1 K series head refit

Quick question to put my mind at ease. Engine waz timed up before removing the head. Ive gone to put the head back on. Head is timed up but exhaust on 3 and intake on 4, valves are open. I dont remember this being the case when I took it off. To make it worse, Im leaving home tonight to fly to...

    Freelander 1 Rear Drum rebuild

I also forgot to mention that the backing plate was quite rusty on the contact faces for the shoes. I just did a quick clean up and put some rust converter in there for good measure. As I say before, I think I will rebuild another subframe and bolt it straight in.

    Freelander 1 Rear Drum rebuild

It's been a while but the freelander turbo has been needing a bit of time to complete a few jobs. A little while ago, the engine mount bolts sheared and dropped the engine, this caused the uppermost heater hose to tear at the bulkhead connector. I replaced that and also could hear the back box...
