    300tdi engine ticking noise

Hi Landyzoners, I'm looking for a bit of advice with an annoying ticking noise that has started on my 300tdi. As you can hear in the video, it happens when I rev the engine up, and stops/quietens down when at idle speed. I had a feel around the back of the block for a head gasket leak but...

Wiring dash lights to come on with side/headlights

I have a 1989 Ninety, in the process of fitting a centre console, and I want to get rid of the switches that control the dash/interior light/hazard by my right knee. Am I ok to just solder a new feed from the headlight switch and connect it to the wire that switches the dash lights on? That...

    Help

My dads TD5 had the exact same issues. It hasn't done it for a few years now, but the long cranking time seemed to be caused by low fuel in the tank, iirc it only did it when the fuel level was below a quarter on the gauge, but we never "proved" it, was just an observation. Our mechanic changed...

    Unusual rear wiper motor question

Hi chaps, I have an unusual technical question regarding the later type of rear wiper motor part number AMR3676. I had an idea to take it out and use it in another application. The trouble is I would need to swap the direction of the wipe to make it fit. They wipe from the bottom in an anti...

Clutch pedal height with a LOF Master Cylinder

Ohhhh I see. In that case I will leave it as it is regarding adjustment, but I will do as you describe and bleed the system again. Thanks!

Clutch pedal height with a LOF Master Cylinder

So I decided to try a LOF clutch master cylinder and I can absolutely say that the difference it's made has been well worth it, the pedal is now lovely and light to press down. I've bled the system and did a test drive and the biting point feels as it was with the old clutch and there is a bit...

300tdi Two Different Head Gasket Designs?

Thanks for the replies guys! That makes sense that they are rivet holes! I did contact Turners and they got back to me 5 minutes later, and it was 9pm, great customer service! Going to keep the Victor Reinz gasket and see if I can fit it this weekend

300tdi Two Different Head Gasket Designs?

Hey all, I am currently replacing the head gasket on my 300tdi. I bought this one: https://www.turnerengineering.co.uk/lvb500200-head-gasket-c2x28815408 from Turners. On inspection, it has holes around the edge of the gasket that are not present on the old composite gasket (which looks like...

    Powered lowering of suspension

How much do you need to lower it by to get through the gate? you could look into lowered springs that can reduce the height by 1-2 inches. Tyre size? Could get a few more cm down with smaller sidewalls.

Drops of oil on flywheel housing

Yeah, it does seem like a lot of work getting the engine out for such a tiny bit of oil. It's not exactly pouring out like some I've seen on here, I see a couple of drips on the tarmac after a long journey, hardly any after short journeys. Maybe I should count my blessings and leave well enough...

    Random rattle gearbox area

Could it be the exhaust? I had a similar problem a few months ago, tightening the bolts on the joints fixed the noise.

Drops of oil on flywheel housing

Had a good look in the drain hole and it looks clean and dry. Never seen any drips of oil from there since I changed the rear seal last year. Will purchase some cleaner and go from there!

Drops of oil on flywheel housing

Hey guys, I'm trying to trace the source of an oil leak on my 300tdi. As you can see from the pic, there always seems to be two small blobs of oil on the bottom of the housing for the flywheel. Changed the rear main seal last year for one from Turners, am fairly confident it isn't that. I'm...

    Rear Diff Broken?

With the prop shaft disconnected it is exactly the same unfortunately.

    Rear Diff Broken?

No, the prop is disconnected now and the driver side wheel spins forward freely, but locks up as soon as you try to spin it backwards. Passenger side totally locked up still.

    Rear Diff Broken?

Hello all, I come to seek your help once again with what I think could be a problem with my rear diff Land Rover 1989 Ninety - Jacked up passenger side wheel to spin prop to allow access to bolts to remove them. I was able to spin the wheel freely until it suddenly locked up. Won't move...

Motor looses power and stops, will start again after five minutes

I had a similar issue a few years ago with the car dying while driving. My mechanic changed the injector seals and that sorted the problem.

Applying the handbrake increases heater power

Hi all, bit of a strange one for you. Today I noticed that when I apply the handbrake there is a noticable increase in the heater output. Its a 300tdi defender. The left side heater lever is as far down as I can get it and does do a nice job of heating up the inside, but I was wondering why the...

    Swivel one shot?

Did you have any trouble removing the filler plug? I have the same type of swivel and can't get the filler plug to move at all.

    Trouble starting but only uphill

I believe there should be a one way valve on the fuel line. I read somewhere that this is supposed to stop fuel flowing back to the tank when the vehicle is facing uphill and fix the problem you are describing.
