Parts are really cheap for them so even if you need a full engine it wont cost much.

Those prices do seem very expensive, If it helps I've got one of those 10 gallon blasting pots which my compressor wouldn't run. If you can get a mobile conmpressor I'm happy to lend it you, you can even blast everything in our barn but its near chesterfield.

Our ldv maxus did this. we couldn't find any faults so gave it a full engine service and it hasn't done it since. We put it down to the old thin oil.

Have you started it up?

It should be fine if all you have done is turn it by the fan belt. If you want to double check then turn the engine a full turn by hand. if anything had jumped it would lock up if it turns freely it should be ok to start it up.
