Series 3 New solenoid - now my charge light is on permanently

thank for asking (and thanks to everybody else for helpful input). I was away this w/e so haven't been able to have a go at sorting this out. Based on Rob1miles' comment I think the dynamo is charging and that it is therefore a case of finding the wire that should go from the alternator to the...

Series 3 New solenoid - now my charge light is on permanently

Hi - I replaced my solenoid becasue the old one was clicking. I connected all the wires as per the old one and the Landy now starts fine. But now the charge light is burning bright and not going out. It seems likely that I did something wrong. As the photos (attached) show the old one didn't...

    Series 3 wiring problem

Hi - I have a 1982 S3. My recent efforts to get my indicators working might be relevant. My S3 doesn't have an indicator relay but a transistorised switch with four wires attached to it. While sorting out another wiring problem I had a big short - melted wires and much smoke. So afterwards...

    Series 3 Voltage regulator

thanks Blackburn - that info did the trick. Checked the wiring to the guages and found light greens to one guage and dark to the other. So I swapped two of them round and voila! Working guages. Luxury! Still puzzled that the voltage regulator has different colour wires and isn't bolted to...

    Series 3 Voltage regulator

My wiring has been in a bit of a tangle for a while, but I have at last got round to sorting out the dashboard and getting the heater duct sorted out. Now that the clocks are back in the binnacle, everything electrical seems to working OK (switches, lights, ignition etc.) but the temp guage...

Paint / Quality / Prep / Colour codes advice req'd

I've used HMG - it seems good. Mostly I used Tractol when repainting my SIII which seemed to me to be similar in terms of quality and easy to use. I have more to say choices and how they worked out over here.

Series 3 Help with agreed valuation

So long as your chassis and bulkhead are sound, £4k would be reasonable as it looks like it's in good shape. In my opinion (others will certainly differ!) the 200tdi conversion will limit its value in years to come, but as Series IIIs are only just beginning to climb in value, that shouldn't be...

Series 3 Side door mirror and front sidelights

I think these items are reasonably close to the original spec for an '83 S3 (the mirrors moved from the wings to the door in 1980): www.famousfour.co.uk/new_parts/ff_part?part=749...

Series 3 Side door mirror and front sidelights

Mark, I had mismatched rusty mirrors on my doors but for the time being they have been removed and I've put mirrors n the wings. Looks much better but of course not such a good rear view but at 45 mph I dont do much overtaking ... New mirrors look like this:

    Series 3 I have a plan... 88" camper

how about a platform just above the height of the bulkhead, covering the entire area of the load area, with a hinged flap which you could flip forward to rest on the steering wheel? You could then stow an air matress and other camping clobber under the platform and out of sight when not sleeping...

Series 3 Progress! time lapse sequence

Painting – the garage isn’t the best place to paint – cold lots of dust from woodworking projects. But I did my best to clean the place up. I used a leaf blower to drive as much dust out of the corners as possible and then mopped it all out before finally setting up for painting. Painting was a...

Series 3 Progress! time lapse sequence

Primer – I used two 500ml aerosols of U Pol #8 etch primer (£12.99 from Halfords)(link). It would have been better if I had bought a litre pot when I bought the rest of my paint from Smith & Allen as it only costs £6.50. But when I was doing my planning before Christmas I didn’t realise how much...

Series 3 Progress! time lapse sequence

Rust – used a wire brush to remove rust from some relatively small areas of the bulkhead. Then the top layer of paint had to come off – using a £5.59 “surface preparation wheel” from Screwfix (link) – incredibly effective and only went through 3 of them to do the whole vehicle.

Series 3 Progress! time lapse sequence

Time to add a few more photographs and some details which I hope will be of some use to others. Bear in mind that I have had to make it up as I went along (with a lot of help from this forum) as I am a complete beginner. It's likely that I've done things which shouldn't be repeated. I'm happy...

Series 3 Progress! time lapse sequence

John, I do have a Safari roof but it had to come off to get it into the garage. I bought a "marquee" on ebay intending to do the work outdoors last summer. But I found the thing was so flimsy it blew about in a gentle breeze. So I had to have a rethink and instead lined the inside of my garage...
