    Blowing neither hot nor cold

Yup, my turn for the blend motors problem! From the wealth of information available I think I'm clear on what needs to be replaced but I wanted to list my symptoms here and get a double check on what I'm thinking, so Symptom: I can't get any hot or cold air to blow into the cabin. Just ambient...

    Auto not changing up

Recently the auto box on my diesel has needed lots of revving to get it to change up through the gears, something like 3k rpm+ to get it into third. Once the engine is warmed up though the problem goes away and it drives fine for the rest of the day, including starting/stopping. Searching...

Leak from oil filler cap (Diesel)

Noticed its started leaking a small but consistent amount from around the filler cap, any thoughts on what could cause this? Checked the oil level and that's fine, the crankcase breather is also not blocked as far as I can see (can blow through it!). Only thought I had was that I'd lost an...

    Aircon, leak from servicing connection

Thought I'd got the AC working after replacing one of the relays, turns out I hadn't, compressor still not kicking in reliably. Got the compressor to work by shorting the black/yellow & white/green wires on the tri switch. Pipes got cold and cold air into the cabin, not exactly arctic cold...

Hot weather, of course the aircon is not working

Trying to see why the aircon is not producing much in the way of chilling and I'm stuck at a fairly fundamental point. I can see the compressor (to the left of water pump as I look into the engine from the front) but I can't work out how to access it to check its getting a voltage. From above...

    Measuring battery drain

Trying to track down battery drain, have the latest RF receiver and the alternator is kicking out plenty of power (and after a decent run the battery is nicely charged up again). 1) How can I measure the drain with an ordinary multimeter(draper 6079)? Tried connecting it in serial between the...

    Replacing transmission fluid, lesson learned

The nice new transmission fluid is a lovely light red and quite difficult to spot against a nice shiny dip-stick. So after you've finished siphoning out the excess when you've over filled it why not take some time to stick the dip-stick in & out of the pot of excess to learn how to read it...

    Which diesel hotfix solution?

There seem to be two widely available (eg eBay!). They both claim to turn off after 15secs to prevent fuel wastage, is their any difference between them? Drag link & track rod ball joints, need replacement?

The steering damper needs replacing (bushes are torn and it looks in generally poor shape) and while inspecting it I noticed that both the drag link and track rod could be easily twisted with one hand. The ball joints didn't seem damaged but I though ball joints should be a lot stiffer...

    Checking VCU, is it OK?

Changing the disc & pads I noticed some windup jacking up the rear wheels. Mentioned it on here and it was suggested I check the VCU. Jacked up one wheel in neutral and tried turning it. By hand I can rock the wheel back and forth and see the prop start turn. With a breaker bar I can rotate it...

New P38, first jobs brakes & tyres

So I've taken the plunge and acquired a 1998 2.5 DSE, plenty of jobs to do on it but the important safety ones are getting the brakes & tyres sorted. Brakes, looking at getting front & rear disc/pad sets from Island 4x4, britpart discs & mintex pads. Do these sound OK? Tyres, the front ones...

    P38 buying advice

Looked at a diesel '98 P38 today, generally in pretty good condition given its age (done 120K miles). Just wanted to check 2 things before taking the plunge, 1) After the test drive the engine bay seemed very hot, very hot air being blasted around by the fan. The temp gauge went up from...

    Good looking P38...6 previous owners

Looking to get a Range Rover and found a very good looking 2000 P38 DSE. ~100K miles, Full service history and looks in mint condition. However I can't help thinking its been passed around a lot, average of a year and a half per owner, am I just being paranoid?
