2.25 Diesel Cold Starting Major Issues

Have you made sure that the glow plugs work on the vehicles original wiring, Ie pull a plug out while keeping its wire on, hold it with pliers against an earth then operating the keyswitch to prewarm and seeing if the plug glows. I had a fault on my sherpa like this, messed about rtesting the...

    Replacement Seats.

I've a couple from a rover 200, cost nowt and more comfy than 1980 landy seats.

    No 4WD!

Sounds like you have a broke half shaft, jack up the 'ole front of the vehicle, put the 'box in first with the engine stopped and turn one of the front wheels, the other should turn the other way, if not you might have a broken half shaft. They are not hard to get out, well not when they arent...

    engine trouble

You'd better have another look, the crank puley probably is going round, if not then you've sheared the key in the pulley or broken the crank. I've known marine versions of these engines froze solid all winter and still go again in the spring, but watch out for water leaks when she warms up.

    series 3 109 outrigger

Chopping up outriggers is not such a good idea. See if you can get a bend to go around it. Flexi is usefull, and great for making prototypes, only thing is it'll only last a few months. Try and keep some distance between the tank and exhaust for abvious reasons.

    Newbie Help (please?)

Welcome to the forum. I'm not an expert on prices however the 109 has less demand than the 88, and for the cash you mentioned I'd be wanting summat that was in reasonable condition. Bits to look at are the bulkhead and the rear crossmember.

    clutch judder, but only twice

Could be summat loose, engine/'box mountings, prop shaft uj bolts, or could be oil on clutch from leaky oil seal, or possibly a britpart clutch, judder somes as standard.

    Series 3 Handbrake lever tooth

If you cant get new one then you could take the whole assy to a jobber type engineering shop, or a fabricators that kind of thing can be fettled.

    Which diesel engine

Engine mounts line up to. You just need to run a line back to the fuel tank, run a wire to the heater plugs and connect the exhaust.

    2.5 NA conversion, running problem

Theres a few things that could be, how many miles has the motor done? Low cylinder compression is possible, do a compression test, another is injector timing, have you checked this. Bad injectors might be another, though this would cause white smoke, does the engine smoke at all on start up or...

    Locking ignition

I've got em out before not on landys but the same principle, take the lock off the column make sure its in the off position and bash the face of the lock against a piece of wood, the key will come to the edge where you can grab it with yer snipeys.

    Head gasket material

Not necessarily the head gasket, try cleaning the crankcase breather pipes. Copper is by far better than assy or whatever its made from nowadays, I've used them on race engines and never had one fail.

    Indicator fault

If you want to use the dash tell tale indicator lamp on a relay that does not have an output for it, you can still do it, connect one of the tell tale wires to the left hand indicators and the other to the right hand indicators, you can do this at the indicators column switch. It only works...

MOT Failure - But I don't think it should be!

Think you did the right thing there mister Johnny. Theres bits under mine where its hard to tell what shape it was originally. I recall welding up a tranny like that, I had to look at another to get the idea of the shape, it was that fecked behind the front bumper.

    clutch and brake operation

Going round a field you might be able to get away without brakes, if theres no inclines. Topping up and bleeding the clutch as mentioned will probably get it working at least for a while, if the clutch slave is knacked then it would be worth the expense of buying a cheapo pattern cylinder just...

The sad tale of my first Landrover

Hope the fookers that did that drove it off a cliff, let me re-phrase that, I hope they drove it to the edge of a cliff, parked up, got out and jumped off the cliff. One thing they didnt feck off with mate is your knowledge of landies and the experience of having done it, which I assume would...

MOT Failure - But I don't think it should be!

I'm with pobs on this one, get them done it'll be a hell of a lot easier than starting a battle with vosa. Any steelwork within 12 inches of suspension or critical chassis points with corrosin is a legit fail, now the big but, if a piece of metal not critical to any mounts or chassis can be...
