    slight tapping/knocking on startup

Sounds like a worn set of big ends if you have low oil pressure at idle. Doesnt mean to say its knacked, probably go on for ages yet just keep checking the oil. The tapping noise sounds like the guess what... tappets, check the clearance to make sure they are ok, sometimes on high mileage...

    How much?!

Maybe I should get mine up on ebay. Either they are all dreamers or the price of landys has gone silly, I know everything is expensive at the mo, but cars arnt, no one has the brass to buy one, they go for peanuts at auctions.

    200tdi exhaust manifold and hoses.

Thats not bad at all, they tend to go quicker when close to the engine.

    How much?!

The 200 tdi is overpriced and you have to wonder why the geyser is selling it so soon after he's got it, could be legit, could be fecked. I like the ragtop, might be worth a closer look, triple check the bulkhead if you go.

    First (?) Series 2A

You see 'new engine' and 'rebuild' a lot in adverts. Dont beleive it, most of this kind of thing is bull****, only take it as red if you see a receipt for the work.

    Look what I found.

There doesnt appear to be a reg plate on it either. You might be in for a whole load of hassle by the sound of it. If you get a go ahead then get it got, otherwise maybe you'll just have to walk away and let someone else have the hassle, one things fer sure if you did it all up shiny, and then...

    200tdi exhaust manifold and hoses.

Rough as arseholes made from a knacked rover exhaust, but enough to get the show on the road. You can mek summat up from scrap bits, a bit more time would get something that doesnt reduce ground clearance.

    Oil Pressure S3 :S

The oil pressure switch on the di is similar to the series so should work, check your wiring I suspect that the wiring is earthed somewhere, that would make the light stay on. The sender on the di has a diffo resistance than the series so might not work, mine does but it only just lifts the...

What's that big red warning light?

Yer can allways bash it bigger and put a fag lighter socket innit for yer mobile or satnav.

    wheel clamp?

In the uk a series wouldnt really be a pinchable item, not much chance of a joyride and the parts are not expensive new, and they tend to have a small market, not the sort of thing you sell in the pub, NZ might be diffo. A wheelclamp is a good visual deterrant, a ballache to use, insurance...

    Sparking exhaust!

Sounds like carbon build up in the head or fanimold, had this on tractor engines and they have been fine. An occasional rev does them good, but not screwed.

    kill Switch

Sounds like your original wiring has a ballast resistor, that would explain the solenoid going dead while cranking. You can fit a seperate switch, the only drawback with hiding it however is suppose you had a bump anyone else wouldnt know how to stop the engine. Couldnt you just wire it to the...

    200tdi exhaust manifold and hoses.

Beware that if you use flexi stuff it doesnt last that long esp if its near the engine, a few months is all you'll get.

    High beam problem

Depending on the year the switch was made, but if you look closely you can see the contacts, operating the high beam on and off you should be able to see which ones are being used, then clean them with a diamond spatula or a leccy's contact file. This will only work for so long as once the...

    A bit pricey?

I've looked at many a listing and made a few, and that one rings alarm bells. From what I've heard so far you might be better walking away, maybe after the listing has been removed cause no-one wants it, offer them 500 notes.

    Any knowledge on chassis?

I heard you can get chassis's with coil spring mounts on, if you were so inclined.

What's that big red warning light?

My '81 has the twisty thing to reset the tripmeter in that position, it also has the brakes differential pressure failiure warning lamp, down by the heater fan switch. One of the previous owners might have had that fitted with towbar electrics, you can get a black box thing that flashes a light...

    What to look for?

Its hard to price up a landy without seeing it, if its a series 3 without t&t then your looking about 500 notes, maybe another hundred or two if its tax exempt.
