    Drum Brake Size

On the edge of my knowledge, but I seem to recall there is a mil spec axle that was beefed up with a channel section, or it may be an axle that someone has beefed up. The 1 tone forward control has beefier brakes, I wonder if thats what you have, if its a sally diff front axle its worth a few...

Started Resto work on my S3

Both the A pillars on my s3 look as though they might be a mot failiure amonst everything else, not looking forward to snotting those up, even though I can get repair sections, from past experience getting things to line up again once the pillar has failed is tricky, as the bulkhead deforms with...

    Thumping when braking

Thats a newun, check your brake shoes and cylinders for security and rotten mounts. Then check the suspension mounting bolts and leaf to axle u bolts, then check the suspension bushes, the latter is a lovely job if you have to do it.

Designa 88" coil, range rover axles, series 3 steering

I'm not a rangie man, but I'd say the steering is hydraulic and power for it comes off a engine driven pump with a remote resorvoir tank. I've seen an articule somewhere some geyser had fitted the rangie power steering and used the standard series column, but he had to have an extension shaft...

MOT Fail on too much welding.

The above has happened to me. A friendly mot guy told me not to cake underseal cack all over a patch just before the test, as the examiner will think its a disguise, either a knacked chassis or a crap weld.

Designa 88" coil, range rover axles, series 3 steering

Well I think its similar, I have a disco axle on the front of my series 3, and the drag link to the steering relay is a disco item shortened by 3/4", the steering damper I'dve thought will be standard RR as it bolts onto the axle, the panhard is gonna be an issue, if the chassis is designed to...

    200di conversion

The tdi will probably be a smidge more economical with the turbo, the turbo at very low boost pressures uses waste heat to force air into the engine, reducing the pumping losses almost completely, only thing is when your tempted to give it a bit of welly all that goes out the window and...

    Which Welder?

The cosmo is a SIP in disguise, and respect to all that have an SIP but leave it well alone, you'll end up giving up thinking you can never do it. I've spoilt myself by using industrial sets, and cringe when I think about using a diy compact, that said the Clarke allthough the company name has...

    Advice on smokey engine.

Er blue beasty I have to correct you there. Black smoke isnt oil burning its partially burned fuel. White can be steam, but more usually its diesel that hasnt ignited at all ie vaporised (grey smoke). Blue smoke is oil being burnt. Timing sounds like the issue then. Edit: i didnt...

    Diesel Leak ..help

That is the fuel filter housing, which is good in a way its a whole load easier than a pump. There should be 2 copper washers, one each side of the banjo union, if not replace it, also check the face where the banjo screws onto, if its damaged either replace the filter housing, or you might be...

    Advice on smokey engine.

Worn injectors can cause black smoke, but more often a bad spray pattern from a knacked injector causes white smoke. Black smoke is unburnt fuel, I'd be checking the pump adjustments to make sure the engine isnt overfueled, might also be worth trying adjusting the timing just a little. If its...

    MOT is booked!!!

I had a bike with a usa headlamp, you can get round the issue by filling off the little lug and rotating the glass so the pattern is more or less correct.

Advice sought on Landy project for newbie...

If you have a report that says the chassis shortening has been done and its before the new legislation came in your sorted, in fact if its done right you'll have a super duty 88" chassis. If the aboves the case then get on with it.

Yet another Series 3 200TDI project

I'm sure its just the way you have pictured it, however you want the intercooler out front before the rad, otherwise warm air out the rad will ehat the induction air, contradicting the whole idea. Be interesting to see how you pipe it up.

    alternative to welding

Agree with the above, the better a set is the better it will be to learn on. I've known people to give up with sacks of crap sets. Get the best one you can. Respect to anyone that has one, but I'd advise not to get a sip, if you want the cheaper end then a clarke may be the way to go. Theres...
