    ID Cooling Hoses/Pipes Not Connected.

No I haven't reconnected them yet. I had a chat with our village mechanic and he, too, wondered whether it was because of a leak on the cooler. He also questioned whether it was even necessary to cool the IRD unless you're storming up and down the motorway every day. As it is I'm going to...

    LPG fitted to 1.8 Freelander

Our Hippo still runs on petrol but have had a 3.5l V8 Disco running on LPG in the past no problems. You don't get so much mileage, gallon for gallon, from LPG as petrol but you have to weigh that up against the difference in price per litre. I'd b cautious about running a 1.8K on LPG due to...

    engine undertray

If it were structural then surely if it were absent it'd be an MOT failure? To my mind the front subframe is sturdy enough to provide more than enough structural rigidity. (Mine doesn't have one either.)

    Do you, Dont you

Me neither. It's about the only bit of my Hippo that works properly! <Oh sheeet!!!>

    Thermostat or no thermostat?

I think I'll try the cheap option first - refitting the stat with a couple of bypass holes drilled - and see how she runs. I can always fit the new hoses later on if that doesn't seem effective enough. Tick-over is >1000rpm so I'm assuming the cold start mechanism is still in operation.

    Thermostat or no thermostat?

Thanks for the link. I've stored it in my favourites and will return to re-read it in the morning, when I'm sober. Cheers A.

    Thermostat or no thermostat?

I certainly hope so. This motor's not going to be doing a huge number of miles (~5k/yr) but I'd rather not have it go pop on me. What's the electric pump fix entail?

    Thermostat or no thermostat?

I've only had my Hippo for a couple of months and so far, ignoring the Hyundai incident, all is well, however it is a bit thirsty and the temperature guage rarely seems to move unless I'm stationary for ten minutes or more. I suspect, but haven't check yet, that someone has taken the...

    Sorry to hear that, matey.

    Clutch Pedal Sticking Down

Mine does this for a short while if I haven't used it for a few days. Once back in use it quickly frees itself up again. I just put it down to a bit of excess stiction in the system somewhere.

    Clutch Slave Cylinder Bracket Failure!

I found the slave bracket was broken after a recent shunt in the Hippo and bought a new one for not many of your Earth pounds. While I was waiting I managed to lash together a temporary repair with zip-ties and a small block of wood. You can tell I've got a Series LR too, eh?

    Missing Front Propshaft

Interesting to read how the Hippo will drive quite happily in FWD mode when the front propshaft is removed. I need to replace the VCU support bearings on mine sometime soon and it's useful to know the car isn't unusable while it's being done. Obviously the back one will need to come off too...

    rattle in my cat

My Freelander failed its emissions test a couple of weeks ago. (MOTs not due for a couple of months though.) The dealer put some fuel treatment in the tank and suggested it would probably be better by the time it comes round but I was wondering whether this might be indicative of a failing cat...

Thanks, I'll remember that for when I have a go at it later this week.

    ID Cooling Hoses/Pipes Not Connected.

It'd be the work of a few minutes to reconnect them. No problem. They've been plugged by putting a screwdown the bore and tightening the hose up around it with the clips - just as you'd do if you were going to be doing some work on it and didn't want to loose all the coolant.

    ID Cooling Hoses/Pipes Not Connected.

Less than 1000. I don't drive a lot of miles in a week. I'll check it for leaks some other way before re-connecting the pipes. Maybe plug one and put an inflated balloon over the other. See if it stays up.

Heheh, looks that way, yes. Ah well, it wouldn't be a Landrover otherwise. I'm inclined towards the forgetful mechanic scenario on this. Successfully fixed the broken headlamp with some Araldite anyhow.

    ID Cooling Hoses/Pipes Not Connected.

I've only had my Hippo for a few weeks and, as with most 2nd hand cars, I'm finding a few things puzzling. Now, I was taking one of the headlamps off earlier (bottob screw broken off in prang the other day) and noticed that the two pipes that are supposed to feed the IRD with coolant don't...

    LPG Questions

Just noticed there's an advert on Ebay for an LPG tank for the Freelander. It's at Land Rover Freelander LPG GPL Tank Cylinder Conversion - eBay Land Rover, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 30-Sep-07 15:40:36 BST)

    viscous coupling operation

Theknock you can hear might be from one of the rubber mounted bearings that the VCU hangs in. These can wear with age but its more like a dull thump than a metal-to-metal noise. It'd be a good idea to get under the car and check for things like broken exhaust mounts and stuff that might be...
