Radius Arm and Rear Linkage Bushes

Have recently bought a rather ratty old 300tdi Discovery (1) auto with 12 months MOT for not a lot of money, but naturally it also came with a list of 'advisory' faults commensurate with its age. Amongst these is a recommendation to replace the bushes on the radius arms and rear linkages...

    Lost keys.

Glad you're getting sorted out with new keys and fob. As for getting it onto the back of a lorry, surely just backing off the transmission brake adjuster would allow it to be winched up a ramp?

No Engine lights but engine turns over

Have you checked the earthing strap between the engine and the chassis? I only mention it because I had a similar problem years ago with a Rover 200 Cabriolet.

Back to Landies in the far North West

Hello all, I'm returning to Landrovers after several years without and just bought a very ratty 300tdi Discovery. No doubt it'll have numerous problems that'll need fixing but that's all part of the fun, plus it wasn't a lot of money and comes with 12 months MOT. In the past I've owned a 3.5...

    Disco 2 with LPG conversion

About ten years ago I had a 3.5 converted to LPG. It ran well but was prone to back-firing through the airbox. That was a Disco 1, though, where the LPG was introduced into the engine through the plenum chamber. Direct injection systems don't suffer with this, I gather. Never had a problem with...

    I think it's dead...

I forgot to mention that it's also fitted with a rear power take-off unit. I've stuck her up on Ebay now, anyhow, so we'll see what happens. The link is Land Rover Landrover Series IIa/III on eBay, also, Land Rover Range Rover, Cars, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 22-Sep-08 09:41:08 BST)

    I think it's dead...

Wow! Gobsmacked by all the interest/chatter. She's a tough old beast. Had the chassis welded a couple of weeks ago. All the lights/indicators work. Exhaust is fine. Brakes work. Engine was ok idling but big bang-bang on the way to the MOT station, hence the conking out. I checked earlier...

    I think it's dead...

No, just announcing the passing... We're moving house in a couple of weeks and I just don't have the time to fix it now, so off to the scrappy unless someone wants to buy it to repair.

    I think it's dead...

I had my 1969 Series 2a Landrover booked in for its MOT this morning. She hasn't been used for a year or so but I'd done a lot of work on her recently, getting it ready for the test. She was running a bit rough and I hoped that was just where she hadn't been run for a while, but then just a...

    Smokin' Freelander

Thanks folks. New plugs and leads, plus dizzy cap. No difference. I was going to try pulling the lead off the number 3 injector and see if it still smoked but its a bu99er to get at the clip. Guess I'll have to pull the inlet manifold for starters.

    Smokin' Freelander

Thanks both. Ironically for a Freelander, it doesn't seem to be losing any water so I'd largely discounted that. It really is producing a lot of smoke. Plug 3 looked black and sooty, but also wet, if that makes any sense. Too much smoke to try driving it anywhere for a test.

    Smokin' Freelander

My 1.8 petrol Freelander is smoking. Smoking like its got a 300 a day Woodbines habit. Smoking like you see tanks doing on a battlefield... It's bad. OK? Grey smoke - thinking oil getting burnt. Thinking it might be a broken ring I've done a compression test and the reading are as follows...

clutch pedal on 18i petrol any ideas

I had a similar fault on mine a while back. I changed the master/slave cylinder assembly and it made no difference at all. It turned out the fault was inside the clutch mechanism itself. Presumably the driven plate was sticking on the shaft or something. I had a new clutch fitted by the...

Shed-dragging aside, I'd sign it. Go set it up and announce it here.

    remove prop-shaft

I wouldn't have thought so. The VCU is a sealed unit, else the fluid would leak out. The only thing that might suffer from storage are the oil seals but would that be any worse in storage to when they're in use on the vehicle?

    Our Brilliant PM

It's a bastard, ain't it? And just one reason why I keep my 1969 Series IIa/III on the road on an Historic Vehicle (==free) tax disc.

    remove prop-shaft

Wise words from NI. Beat it about on the slippery stuff, then see what the VCU has done. The usual practise (if you're taking the VCU off is to drop the prop shafts at their remote ends and take them, and the VCU, off as a single unit.

Back window has a mind of its own...

Thanks everyone, I did think about the keyfob and I do keep my keys in my pocket. I'll be more careful with it for a couple of weeks and see if it does it again.

Oh, I've got plenty of them :)
