anybody converted an R380 to short shaft?

Ok I'll check it out. Last thing I bought from a breaker was a "superb low mileage" 200tdi engine for £250 which turned out to be £250 of scrap iron :mad: - still in the garage corner. So with breakers , it's a once bitten thing for me.....

Ok perhaps I'll have a go. I'm sure my tranny is ok. I clearly need an output shaft for the 77 (would that be the main or lay or neither?) , but do we know what's causing the box to jump out of reverse? Thanks for the help.

Yeah I can do mechano. I imagined though that a whole bunch of pullers and presses and other special tools would be needed to get it all apart and back together again.

All the time. Also when I fitted a discotheque tranny I noted the 77 output shaft is well manked. What's my best option. Is it worth getting a short R380 from crofts - not that i can afford 1 at 950 squids.

Just don't get any Britpart lights. I bought a full set (before I knew better) and so far both the Stop/Tail lights have melted away inside. And no, i didn't have them wired up the wrong way round.

Be careful. I have some which are fitted upside down (in the a frame) but they don't rotate in any way so the water ingress drain holes are at the top...not so good. I know get the dewalt out.

Yes you can but you will need a Short Bell Housing Different Front Cover Short Pinion (Input) Shaft The bits above need to match the suffix of the R380 you are using. You also need to be able to get that shaft into the box. I wouldn't bother unless you can get hold of a defender...
