    John Craddock Buyer beware

Theres always some dealer or other seller that are basically dishonest when selling their vehicles. Its an age old con that goes on all the time. How many of you out there have bought a landy and found out what its really like about a month into owning it. Ive heard it all from dealers and...

    Suspension Bushes

Not sure with that as i have a std rig, but Id take internal diameter measurement and length and go investigate armed with some measurements. Or post up the measurements and someone may be able to comment. Maybe a photo will help as well? DW

    Zenith 361V 2.25 Engine Series 3

carb overhaul done. I used the original jets as i thought they were doing the job as they should. this Zenith carb was warped at the top and bottom halves as well as the emulsion block. Hand sanded them on glass. I replaced the throttle shaft and used some of the other parts in the kit. I had...

    zenith mixture screw...

I didn't get mine from paddok but it sounds the same kit. Its the right kit with a load of useless washers to make it look comprehensive. Its really poor quality, the compensator gaskets dont fit at all so I did some surgery on them with First aid kit scissors and I got to use one of them. I...

Hello all. Ive got a Bearmach carb overhaul kit that worries me. Theres a couple of gaskets that are not accurately stamped so make me wonder if the jets theyve supplied are any good either? has anyone used a bearmach branded kit and im interested in how you went with it. Did you use the...

I NEED URGENT ADVICE: Electrickery/Alternator and a stupid owner??

Andy youve got a host of described problems there. You really need to get a workshop manual and do the timing , ign and carb to spec. What your describing is engine timing and electrical probs, ie points and leads etc. The electrical prob sounds like a possible short going on thats putting...

I NEED URGENT ADVICE: Electrickery/Alternator and a stupid owner??

If the vehicle is at idling spec and lights and radio etc are on, and you are getting under 12V I would suspect the alternator. The battery should be right but its hard to assess when the idle is beefed up higher. With an underperforming alternator the light will come on. Can I suggest...

I NEED URGENT ADVICE: Electrickery/Alternator and a stupid owner??

Get your multimeter out and set it to volts. Check battery, it should have 12V+ there. Start engine, at idle it should creep up to between 13.5 to 14.5V. Or thereabouts. That means charging sys is charging how it should. With volt meter connected start engine, while cranking the volt meter...

series 2a with gearbox prob, any advice?

I see where your coming from. Ive stripped all the series gearboxes. I stand by what i say! Ok lets put it another way, series 3 boxes (not suffix D), are more problematic than earlier versions (2 and 2A) -although there were layshaft issues with those. S3 require removal and stripdown more...

    Series III questions

Rob, my advice is that before you consider buying a series land rover be aware they have broken many good men , many many good men. Too late you already got one. They will constantly test you and I havent really figured out why i keep going back for more.Doc.:D

Series 3 clicking when key turned

its worth checking the earth straps and cleaning em up. check solenoid. A lot of blokes short out the solenoid terminals with a heavy duty insulated screwdriver which bypasses it to allow battery voltage to the starter. Im not a fan of that and can be dangerous. Id get a multimeter and...

series 2a with gearbox prob, any advice?

Series III 1st and 2nd gears were compromised in strength and size to accomodate the bulk of the synchromesh. Yes the series III is a weaker box and that is well known. Suffix D boxes are another story as they also have hardened gears which make them tougher. Used in military applications. Dr.

SIII -Gearbox Reverse Gear bearing removal

Fair call on the gear hardness but it very much depends on the quality of bearing and where the wear occurs in your needle roller. More so the composition of the retaining cage varies and can determine a different outcome when your talking wear. The retainers are not always harder than the gear...

series 2a with gearbox prob, any advice?

The all syncro transmission has a reputation of being less robust than the earlier versions mostly because they do not hold up to quick shifting. The synchros must come to a stop when the shifter goes through the neutral position if the syncros are to last. When shifting an all syncro gearbox it...

    oil pressure light

To be safe Id buy an aftermarket oil gauge and fit it. That way you can check if the oil pressure is sufficient at higher revs. If the readings are low or very inconsistent Id be looking at your oil pump pronto. Dr.

SIII -Gearbox Reverse Gear bearing removal

Thanks I got the clip out. I disagree with some of what you say. The reality is we drive small distances in reverse gear however, brg wear over 38 yrs occurs in that area! Needle roller wear happens over time to rollers and cage. Pitting occasionally, and dislodged needles. Replace all is not...
