aimed at shifty ! any ways that i can make my td5 disco change gear at lower revs ?

At gentle acceleration, mine changes at certain speeds - 1st to 2nd 15mph, 2nd to 3rd about 27, 3rd to 4th about 35. Torque converter lockup happens at 53 in top. I have seen threads on here where if the engine is not producing enough power, the box delays the changes and give the symptoms...

    electrickery puzzle

I had a similar problem on my 300Tdi. It was a sticking solenoid on the fuel cutoff. Unfortunately mine was caused by the injector pump failing due to poor fuel quality, and shards of metal had worked their way through the system and lodged in the cutoff. The other fault you can get is the...

pulling to the left when driving

Pulling to side particularly under braking can be wheel bearings on their way out

    clicking noise/gearbox

hi, I think you'll find that it is the latch that prevents you going from 5th to reverse. As you come out of 5th and move across, the latch will release so you can pull back into 4th. I had the same issue on my manual Disco 1. Absolutely nothing to worry about. Cheers!

Can a Nanocom or Hawkeye read the output from the Internal temp sensoe

I'm thinking of buying one or other of these. I have a suspicion my internal temperature sensor may not be working. Can either of these devices read the current output of this sensor? It might just affect my decision as to which I buy (I'm tempted by the Nanocom). Cheers!

    300TDi diesel non return system

When I had a Tdi, and suffered the same thing if I parked nose uphill, my independent landy expert suggested changing the fule lift pump and that cured the problem. Relatively cheap and easy fi. As other posters have said, any air leak will also cause problems.

    rev counter

The rev counter is driven from the alternator. Either the alternator is faulty, or the connection onto the alternator is failing. Try wiggling the spade connector at the back of the alternator, or recrimp it first. If that doesn't help, take it to an autoelectrician and get them to check the...

    Gearbox noise.

It's the gizmo that stops you going from 5th to Reverse - when you move back to neutral it springs back and is quite audible when the windows are open. Nothing to worry about. Cheers!

    Window regulator part

I presume you need bits 19,21 (Channel) and 22 (glazing rubber) from the attached diagram. Part 21 is a locating channel - part number is MWC2941 Part 19 is the main channel - there are three different versions depending on VIN. Either MUC2322, ALR6482 or ALR8022 Part 22 is part number...

    gear change speed

Exact speeds depend on how hard you accelerate! However, under gentle acceleration, 1st to 2nd on mine is at about 15mph, 2nd to 3rd at about 28, 3rd to 4th at 35. Torque converter lockup will be at 53 which feels like going into 5th! Unless you put the transmission in 3rd, and then it will...

    Clutch change info please??

Official recommendation and Haynes recommendation is to remove the engine rather than the gearbox. However, many on this site say the gearbox is easier. When I did mine, me and a mate took the engine out and it was relatively painless. Trick is getting the top belllhousing bolts out...

    Window frame removal

I don't see that there is any way to do that? I recently changed one of mine and it was just part of the process. I can't see why you wouldn't want to remove the glass - just gaffa tape it to the frame, undo the two bolts from the regulator and lift frame and glass out as one unit. Then fit...

Argh, replacement door seals, black or 'Sonar Blue'??

One other thing - I had a similar problem and it was cured when I replaced the door frame - the previous one was loose at the bottom where you can adjust the frame to get a tight seal.

Argh, replacement door seals, black or 'Sonar Blue'??

Had a quick look on Microcat - if it's the right seal the part number is CFE500450, but a google for that doesn't show anything. Microcat indicates it has been superceded but I can't find by what. I'd ask a dealer direct - they may have updated information.

Disco 2 cruise control...or lack of!!

The power supply to the steering wheel switches comes off the horn feed. So if horn fuse goes, no cruise control. Cheers1

    Trim removal tool...

A lot of the clips on Disco's, such as the ones in the door trims come in two parts - a red bit that is fixed in the car and a black bit which goes into the fixing hole. They are designed to come apart if you are slightly (but not too) vigorous. Most of the time you can clip them back...

    Auto Disco

TILT! OP said TD5 and due to lack of alcohol, I typed TDi. TD5 does have an injector harness which could get contaminated. Sorry for the error, but comments on checking simple things still apply. Cheers!

    Auto Disco

One simple thing - High - Low on an auto the main box must be in Neutral - there is an interlock. If you're in Neutral, then I'd agree with stuck linkages. On rough running on a TDi, could it be the oil in the injector harness problem?

    help...desperate!

Sounds like the Hi/Low box switch is reporting the wrong way round, so the car thinks it's in low range all the time. That would explain the M as that is what you should get when the box is in low.

    Load space cover

Highly unlikely. I've owned both and the ends where they fit behind the seats are different, and the hooks on the back are different, even though the rest is very similar. Totally different part numbers as well. Cheers!
