Thanks for the info. I will compare my silicon elbow with the old original before fitting in case some have been cut short. Sorry to hear about the mot failure, maybe it's all the salt that's used north of the border!
I notice you are based in Hemel H. If you get the chance pop along to the new Redbourne mot station and see what you think. It seems pretty impressive to me.
I use the Apsley station, very old fashioned but thorough and fair.
There is a reason for the V6 being cheaper to buy. The reason is it will be far more expensive to run unless you do a tiny mileage and see the car as a form of DIY. You should also be a very competent mechanic to own a V6.
Its easy to have trouble at first. As suggested the answer is not insert it fully. Watch for a notch on the filler that works well when inserted that amount.
On our first Freelander, a V6, it took an age to fill until we got the hang of it.
With my TD4 at 57k miles I will leave the sedimeter drain to the time I change the filter. Whether the filter change at 60k is necessary is another question which isn't answered until one blocks and one is stuck on the hard shoulder!
Such a pity the filter unit is so poorly sited.
Our 2005 had a very rusty tank holder that needed treatment to hopefully avoid MOT problems in future years. Our 2003 tank holder is ok. I wonder if the initial finish on some of these bits could be poor. Bodywork on both cars is excellent.
My 2003 to 2006 Haynes mentions this fuel drain. I don't recall it from the earlier Haynes or the LandRover service schedule. Does anyone bother with it and if so is it necessary every 12k?
I suppose it could be handy if you fill up with petrol !
