Oh #### - hole in rear diff casing....

Latest news - have removed the diff cover, to find no apparent signs of damage. Jacked the wheel and spun it all round and everything seems in one piece, so just need a new cover. Paddock seem cheapest - how express is their express service? (or suggestions for anywhere else that can get a cover...

Cheers Mate - much appreciated offer! Would appreciate someone who knows a bit more than me taking a look, but don't worry about getting it home - it's parked on my parents drive and will stay there til fixed (I live in a flat and Dad has more tools than me....) Hopefully, if my theory is...

Oh #### - hole in rear diff casing....

Cheers for the replies gents. Oil was last done by the garage I boughtit from, october time (3500ish miles back). Pet theory is this - the oil plug might have gone in too far when replaced after I checked the oil level, then cuahgt, been dragged in and spat out again - the RH hole appears...

Oh #### - hole in rear diff casing....

Just driven the 18miles to my parents house. Noticed a light irregular knocking noise from the rear end, so pulled over and had a look. Nothing doing, except a little oil on the rear diff casing. The filling cap was loose, so I presumed it was leaking a little - plenty of oil in there when it...

    Land Rover DIY annoyances

Not had much to do in 6months ownership... but changing the washer jets drove me mental! I tried to follow the advice on here to go in through the ashtray, but that only works for people with tiny hands and three elbows;) Ended up with the dash off and took a good couple of hours. Main reason...

Is your Defender your main vehicle?

Only vehicle for me too - does me for a 35mph round trip commute and fishing and paintballing trips. Always too resented spending money on other cars, as they're all headed for scrap eventually, whereas I intend to keep the 110 for a LONG time!

    Serious Soundproofing for a 110

I put some old foam camping mat under the foot mats, which helped a little, then solved the engine noise issue by fitting a bloody great speaker box in the rear........

    Safari Engineering?

They're local to me - not used them myself, but a few friends have, and speak pretty highly of them.

    Headlamp bulbs

Blown them both going through a ford! Should they be better waterproofed, is there anything to look for when I strip them down to put new bulbs in?

    Split charging systems- quality?

Making a bit more sense - cheers! Think I'll go with a higher rated unit, but not spend too much. Headlights makes sense..didn't think of the main lights being attached to the starter battery, but of course they are! Got a 65amphr leisure battery which I nicked from my old electric outboard...

    Split charging systems- quality?

There seem to be lots of different split charging systems out there - with a huge variance in price. For eaxmple - SPLIT CHARGE RELAY- 12V 30AMP SELF SWITCHING DUCATO on eBay (end time 23-Jan-11 03:25:47 GMT) Now, I only want it to do something simple - stopping the battery going flat if I...

    Steering Guard

I'm looking at fitting a steering guard onto my 110. She's only really used for gentle greenlaning and driving rough tracks when camping and fishing. Couple of quick questions: 1 Is this an appropriate form of protection for her - or would other items such as diff fuards be best bought first...

    Defenders with kids?

As have I. Just bought my first defender, and your budget would involve something needing a little TLC, especially if you wanted something like a Station Wagon which would be best with kids in tow.

What have you learned from Defender ownership?

In a few short weeks of ownership I've learned: - It leaks. It can't be stopped! - Driving through a ford with the drivers window open is NOT a good idea - especially with people watching! - There's always something to fiddle with or fix on a weekend! - If it looks a bit rusty - then it's...
