    Disco Transfer box

I also recon that if you tow heavy loads that it would certainly be unsuitable, as the gears are longer and you really need to get the power up before changing up. I haven't towed anything very heavy so far, but can imagine trying to drag something up hill would be hard work on vehicle and driver.

    Disco Transfer box

I've got a Disco box in mine, the higher gearing is OK for cruising around on the level but i've lost acceleration (very much so at 50mph+), the top end is worse (reaching 70 takes a long time and it struggles to go more than a couple of mph further, just revs and smokes!) and when it comes to a...

Light Armor For A Bit Of Off Road Fun

"Shiny bits" are a dividing topic, some say you don't need any, others say it protects against damage. You need to wack components hard to inflict damage; mud is harmless, rocks might hurt! My off-roading is limited to getting across the ground these days, and as such I no longer have any...

    Raptor Engineering Dashes, any good???

One of the things I love about Land Rovers is the wiring, even the standard wiring is understandable (maybe not TD5 and onwards!); as for additions and upgrades, its easy, and fun!

    Defender tow hitch....

The main question would be what sort of after-market tow pack have you got? Do you have a photo? The Land Rover and equivalent height adjustable tow bars usually go lower than any other style of tow pack.

How reliable/unreliable has your defender been?

I've had alot replaced, but it was all wear and tear. I had a phase of mud-plugging/leisure off-roading, and that really pushed the vehicle. So whilst the list is long and expensive (some of it not required but I was new and naive to Landies) the result it that it should be more reliable than...

    Pain in the arse!

Insurance companies are terrible, if you want to cancel your policy after more than a couple of weeks they won't refund you F.A. I enquired about cancelling my policy last year about three weeks after renewing and I would have only got about a quarter of the money back!

    Dash console

Regarding the stainless steel grill, by the looks of it that will let in less muck that the standard grill.

    bought some bull bars..but!

If your going to keep it I would fit some bolts on the front side, otherwise if it does get bumped the rear mounts will mostly likely just bend and it will end up in the bodywork. I see what you mean about the gap from the body though. If you put a washer on each of the bumper bolts between...

    Defender Windscreen/roof seal

having thought about it i'm planning to replace the bottom w/screen/bulkhead seal as well. It rained today and the new door passenger seal + dumdum has stopped the leak on the nearside front corner, which is good as the bulkhead was suffering. Unfortunately problems persist on both sides at the...

    Defender Windscreen/roof seal

Thanks for the reply. The other thread was helpful, and having looked on Microcat I recon I need to get a couple more seals for the roof (only having the large inner seal). Unfortunately it leaks worst when facing uphill, facing downhill seems to stop all but the door seal leak, which is...

    Defender Windscreen/roof seal

Presently my Landy leaks terribly, more than would be deemed acceptable by and Land Rover owner. The main problem areas are the passenger side door seal where the windscreen and bulkhead meet, which I have just replaced with some additional dumdum (will have to see if i've done enough to cure...

    New defender 90 problems..?

Apparently they leak the same, they have the strange new interior and there were some mechanical problems, although i'm not sure if they have been resolved now (the worst one being very premature gearbox failure). The TDCi model seems pretty pokey having been present at a test drive and has a 6...

    1984 SWB Landrover

I'm told that those Petrol engines were quite good in a series, but no doubt (and perhaps clearly) not so much in a Land Rover 90 etc. I would think hard though about an engine swap, its quite a project and you will completely change the character of the vehicle, something you might otherwise...

    Starter motor? 90 200tdi 1993

I would double check the battery and get a voltage reading. It seems quite common that serious mud and water get in the alternator and screw it up, which means no charge. I remember a friends Disco wouldn't start after going for a play, the alternator had stopped charging, and when he went to...

bad oil leak on 200tdi need advice please

I'm no mechanic but sounds like the head gasket. The white smoke could be the coolant burning off, which would obviously leave you with little circulation to keep the engine temperature under control. Mine went not long after I bought it (user error), the power didn't go noticably but the...

What suspension on my 90 pick up?

Last month with some help from friends I fitted Britpart Standard Height HD springs and cellular dynamic shocks all round as the front springs in particular were sagging and not performing brilliantly. They were easily fitted, no spring compressors were required, just jacked up the chassis and...

    Fuel pump or not?

Mine did this, it was a split in one of the small hoses between the injectors letting air in and pushing the fuel back.

    Defender Plastic A Bar

Yes a lot of money to justify for something that at best only looks good. Yeah I got one of they in the garage. Might just whack it back on there tomorrow. I wasn't sure about the looks but its not to bad will save a shed load of dosh. I have a set of spots as well but one needs replacing...
