2004 TD4 Rattle, Stutter in power delivery and puff off smoke

Easiest way is to disconnect the plug and rev the engine and see if the knock and smoke goes away. WARNING this will bring a warning light up on the dash and could cost you £40 to clear it. It takes a trained ear to know the difference between a diesel and mechanical knock.

2004 TD4 Rattle, Stutter in power delivery and puff off smoke

TD4 has what they call a common rail fuel injection system where a high pressure fuel pump delivers a controlled pressure to the common rail and injectors that are electronically opened and closed giving a metered dose of fuel to each cylinder. To test injectors and their spray pattens they...

    Which Tyres ?

Scratching my head on this one but what are the best mid range (price) tyres to put on a Freelander, I will be doing 99% mileage on tarmac with the once a week down farm tracks. I don't want to get it wrong as X4 is an expensive mistake.

    VCU Torque test results

For what its worth mine is a 54 plate with 92000 miles 1.2m x 5kg x 45 degrees = 30 seconds. It does feel a bit tight in reverse but it will not change the engine revs whilst reversing on full lock.

    Freelander 1 Freelander td4 misfire

after fitting a new fuel pressure sensor This should be nothing to do with blue smoke as it is fuel related which could only be black or white smoke. I have a misfire on my 03 td4 at 2000rpm. 1) check turbo for leaks 2) check common rail pressure sensor is mechanically and electrically in good...

    Disco 1 Knock at idle.

Sounds like over fueling, It could be one of many things, try the injector test by slackening each injector in turn to see if the noise disappears, it the noise disappears on a particular injector swap it with the one next to it and try again, if the noise is still there on that cylinder then...

    Wiring LED spotlights

Ohm's law, 4 amps. A little note about LED's, they are critical to voltage, a 12v alternator will charge to 14 volts and if the LED lamps do not incorporate a voltage stabilizer chip the life expectancy of the LED's will diminish. Relays are the safest way of switching even with such low...

59 Freelander 2 Uneven Rear Tyre Wear

Usually what happens is the front tyres wear unevenly for some reason, could be wrong tyre pressures or more seriously a bent suspension unit that has been involved in an accident, they then swap them to the rear to run them out and fit new to the front. Most garages do not cover adjustments...

Hi All Just wanted to say a big HELLO as I now own a freelander and might need a bit of help which might seem a bit ironic for a mechanic who cut his teeth on land rovers nearly 40 years ago but it just goes to show that even the best of us need help sometimes as you will never know it all. I...
