    Main Bearings

Update...... Did the mains today, couple of hours of a job. The shells came out easily, didn't even have to rotate the crank. The shells were in good condition considering the engine has done 130,000 miles and had diesel in the sump.

    Main Bearings

I can see it coming to this, pulling the engine that is. I've re shelled other engines this way, but the bearings were tanged so you know for sure they are located correctly. Landrover always has to be different. Did you plastigauge the journals when you did it? I,ve looked for oil...

    Auto Gear Changing.

Get someone with a nanocom or the like to check the output shaft speed sensor in the box is providing a signal. In laymans terms the torque converter is made up of two sets of paddles. One set is connected to the engine flywheel, the other set connected to the output shaft of the gearbox...

    Main Bearings

I've got the pistons out of my TD5 at the moment, engine stripped but still in vehicle. I'm replacing the rings and big end bearings. Has anyone done the the main bearing shells, whilst the crank is still in (ie rolled the shells in)? I was going to replace the mains whilst I'm in there, but...

    The Dreaded Misfire

I'm sure this car is possessed. Still running rough, but intermittent. Reset Injector clearances, still tapping. Sounds more like diesel knock, but annoyingly sometimes it does it(running rough/misfire) and other times runs well with no knock. What i've found when running rough: -...

    The Dreaded Misfire

Lengthy post...Sorry. Well had it to the indy and they kept it for the day......Verdict is they can't find anything wrong with it. Very annoying as there obviously is!!! It has still got a tapping noise, loudest at around a 1000 revs. Engine shakes when it does this and cylinder balance...

    The Dreaded Misfire

Checked the wiring around the head and ac compressor, looks fine and renewed the plastic sleeving. Didn't pin the wires for voltage though, just a visual check. I'm wondering whether the previous keeper has put a 3 track pedal on instead of a 2 track. I read this about nanocom...

    The Dreaded Misfire

checked throttle with nanocom. Track 1 and 2 do add up to 5 volts, well 4.98 or something. Nanocom shows a reading in track 3 also, even though it should be a 2 track throttle. Track 3 reading doesn't follow track 1 or 2.

    The Dreaded Misfire

Not been chipped that I'm aware of. I've had the lid off to see if there was any oil inside, but there was none. I'll check the throttle and see what figures I get.

    The Dreaded Misfire

The engine is EU2, vin is 1a721073 and ECU part number is msb101340 Ive re input the injector codes using nanocom. One thing that confuses me though is say I type in code NLNMA and write to ecu, when I re check, the code says NLNME.

Would this show up on the voltage readings on nanocom? If so what am I looking for?

    The Dreaded Misfire

I've swapped the modulator and the wastegate actuator. Got a replacement actuator from forge Motorsport. Its a bit bling, but that was the only place selling replacements. One thing I've noticed, is that when its driving badly, there seems to be delay in the throttle response. Press the...

    The Dreaded Misfire

Well just to update..... Still running poor... draining money and motivation. Things changed and checked.......made no difference. - had 3 different injector looms Britpart and now on a genuine landrover. - new injector seals. - new AMC head, noticed oil level up slightly. now fine. - new...

    Ace Pump

Checking the engine pulleys on my Td5 and found the Ace pump hard to turn. There was also some play in the pulley when moving forward and back. has the pump had it?

    Cam Chain Tensioner

Hi all, Just changed the head on my Disco and had a quick question. When I was replacing the long bolt which screws into the side of the head and tensions the chain, I noticed two shiny grooves on the end. The end that presses against the tensioner guide. I want to know if this is normal...

    The Dreaded Misfire

well bit of an update...... Got the truck back from the mechanic and it was running rougher than when I took it in. The mechanic has had it three weeks, so I was just glad to get it back. The injectors have been cleaned and calibrated and replaced with new seals and washers. The engine...

    The Dreaded Misfire

Sorry not replied. Car is still at the garage!!!! I'm getting a bit miffed to be honest. I like doing my own repairs, but can't at the minute because of lack of time. Mechanic couldn't find anyone to check the injectors. It took me all of two minutes on the web, picked the injectors up and...

    The Dreaded Misfire

Had mechanic on phone today. Said he'd tested the injector wiring and opened the ecu. No oil had got inside and no breaks in wires. He said heis going to get the injectors tested. Out of interest, is there any way to test the ecu?

    The Dreaded Misfire

Cheers for the replies. Took disco to 4x4 mechanic as in previous post. Told him to check all the wiring and ecu, before he starts swinging on the injectors. They are a last resort.
