Have you checked the back of the pedal? If it's sticky chances are you have a leaking master cylinder. If it's the slave it's not much of a problem to replace.

More likely your friend just felt the benefit of having his car serviced. Even if the 10% claims are true that is around 1bhp increase for your average tdi. Performance filters can be worth having if you plan on keeping the car mainly for the lifetime use but otherwise I wouldn't bother.

Lots of Places like mamas&papas, toysrus etc will try the seat before you buy to make sure it does fit.

That is true but postage costs are also supposed to be reasonable. The OP is obviously local to the seller so charging £15 to drop it off would be excessive but Charging £15 on top of the purchase price to collect really is taking the ****. If he was to use a courier then fine
