    This is getting flipping ridiculous

Hmm, but wouldn't running a jump lead from the battery earth to the engine block have got round any connection problems? Maybe I didn't find a good enough earth on the engine block - I used the alternator bracket.

    This is getting flipping ridiculous

Quick update: Battery voltage at the starter terminals - I've tried loosening them and retightening to clean them. No change. One interesting observation, the earth cable on the battery gets VERY hot when turning the key. Does that mean something? Battery voltage drops about half a volt...

    This is getting flipping ridiculous

Having just about recovered from my BECM problem where the flipping thing was occasionally cranking itself, it now appears that the starter is suddenly dead. I'm wondering if the becm is actually repaired. It's already had a flipping expensive new fuse box. It was working fine last week, but...

    Becm/ eka

Just a wild stab in the dark, but I think the EKA has to be entered with the bonnet closed.... Also, the engine disabled message suggests to me that it's still in lockout mode and you will need to wait 30 minutes before you can enter the EKA again... I had a bit of trouble getting my keys...

    EAS Big spend!

Not really, but it was a very rough track. Right at the start of a day's laning on Salisbury Plain too. I wasn't very happy. Luckily I managed to get to a road.

    EAS Big spend!

I managed to break one of my brand new Arnott Gen 2s first time out off roading after replacing them, so they're not indestructible... The whole base plate cracked.

I dont F-ing believe my luck with these cars its all too familiar

Well going by what you were saying, you should at least be able to sell the slightly dodgy old one to recoup some of your loss...?

    Cat removal

Believe me it sounds awful. I bought mine like that and it's been running like it for years - I've just replaced the cats and it sounds so much better. It just sounded like a knackered old wreck before. Now it just is one.

    Cat removal

It will probably pass the emissions test if presented on lpg, but should still fail as it's supposed to have one fitted.

    Solar charger advice

Where have you put them Keith? I had a cheap Maplin one for a while but it didn't seem to do anything to help the battery so I bought a maintenance charger instead. Not an option where it is at the moment though as no mains. Is a regulator necessary?

It's official, my P38 is properly sulking. BECM now?

Aha! Unfortunately in my version of Rave, the starter relay just has pins numbered 1, 2, 3 and 5. Never mind, 1 & 2 would appear to correspond to 85 & 86 going by your diagram. Ta!

It's official, my P38 is properly sulking. BECM now?

Thanks for that. Shame they don't print those numbers on the circuit diagram! Actually, just what is the point of the pin numbers on the circuit diagrams for the relays when there is no way of easily identifying them in the fuse box? I feel sure I must be missing something...

It's official, my P38 is properly sulking. BECM now?

I don't have any spares so I didn't want to risk breaking any of them. Fair point, but it would be good to know exactly which pin is which rather than having a choice! I checked pin 6 on connector C177, which carries this connection to the BECM and it showed effectively infinite resistance...

It's official, my P38 is properly sulking. BECM now?

I've just been out with my multimeter, but it's all a bit inconclusive. Is there a way of tying up the pin positions for the relays with the wiring diagram? One end of what I think are the actual contacts appeared to be at ground but I don't think that helps me at all. I suppose the...

It's official, my P38 is properly sulking. BECM now?

I'm with you. Will try and test it tomorrow, I've got a new multimeter now.

It's official, my P38 is properly sulking. BECM now?

Before I do that, presumably I can check the theory with a meter? Looking at the wiring diagram, if I do a resistance test between pin 2 on the relay and ground then anything other than open circuit would indicate a short somewhere? I was trying to decide if measuring the resistance between...

It's official, my P38 is properly sulking. BECM now?

I've just been going through the circuit diagrams for this and am coming round to the idea that it could actually be the BECM again. I can see what you mean Keith. The previous fuse box failed because apparently the starter relay had melted and damaged the fuse box. I had forgotten that little...

It's official, my P38 is properly sulking. BECM now?

When I said it had got damp, I didn't mean soaking wet. Just a bit condensationy (is that a word)? I read somewhere that the Becm connectors can corrode though. Perhaps I should have pulled them to check while I had the seat out. Something to add to the list, I guess. Appreciate the...

It's official, my P38 is properly sulking. BECM now?

But tapping the starter relay seems to stop it... There's an article on rangerovers.net listing engine cranking as a fuse box symptom. Pretty sure the fuse box can't be burnt though - it's only been on a month! Will have to ask the garage where they got it.

It's official, my P38 is properly sulking. BECM now?

Ps, thanks Rasheed for the door locks suggestions. I suspect the rf receiver may well be the old sort - was never a problem before as I had no neighbours. Not sure I like this town business. Will keep an eye on the door locks, but I think that was a symptom of something else - either becm or...
