anybody willing to do a v8 cylinder head around nottingham?

I'm also getting to the point where I'm almost tempted to pay someone to do mine, but the garages all want stupid money for it. Trying to sell the house at the moment, so not much time to take the Rangey to pieces.

Tyres - Winter on the way

Another vote for General Grabber AT here. I've had AT2s on mine (on 18s) for a few years and they are very good in all conditions. Very quiet on tarmac too. Just replaced the fronts with the new AT (due to punctures not wear) and despite looking milder seem even better offroad than the AT2s...

Recommended gasket set for 4.6 top end rebuild?

Thanks for the replies - apologies for my tardiness, but I don't seem to be receiving notifications for some reason. What about replacement head bolts? Are the standard bolts 'stretch' bolts or am I missing something? I just bought what Unipart told me to use last time!

    P38 won't select P or 1 gear

I think you just need to keep fiddling with it. I've had this before in with my low range gears. It needs adjusting again now. It can be a right bugger - I can get it right on High range or Low range but it's a reet bugger to get it right for both.

Recommended gasket set for 4.6 top end rebuild?

Hi All, I'm trying to price up the cost of overhauling my top end when I sort out my leaking HG. Is this one from Island 4x4 ok? It's got Elring composite HGs in it, which I've at least heard of from somewhere on here...? Head Gasket Set (Includes Elring Head Gasket) P38 4.0/4.6...

Anyone recommend a 'maintenance' battery charger?

Ordered a ctek from Amazon now, but thanks all anyway. It's only a weedy one but I have a proper charger for proper charging.

Anyone recommend a 'maintenance' battery charger?

Thanks all. Think I'll get a ctek then as I have no idea where my nearest aldi is. I like mail order.

Anyone recommend a 'maintenance' battery charger?

I saw a posting about that. Is it intended for this kind of use though? It's not clear from the web page that I looked at. I've heard Ctek's mentioned before, but they seem quite expensive and there seem to be lots of different types. Would I need a conditioner or a charger? Does the capacity...

Anyone recommend a 'maintenance' battery charger?

I've stopped using my P38 as my daily drive while I decide what to do about the head gasket (to re-engine or rebuild, that's the question) and other issuettes. Trouble is, the battery keeps going flat despite the solar charger I stuck on it. Can anyone recommend an inexpensive 'maintenance'...

Height sensors - what size spanners?

I feel ripped off now! :)

Height sensors - what size spanners?

Thanks all. I offered £50 for the lot which was accepted on the understanding that I remove them myself. Think they were all replaced a few years ago so hopefully still good. I was going to buy new but it soon adds up and I've got enough to fix already. At least one of mine is completely shot...

Height sensors - what size spanners?

Hi All, Off out in a couple of hours to remove all the height sensors from a breaker. Anyone know offhand what size spanners I'll need? Any other tools worth taking? I was going to check on mine but the battery is flat and its on its bump stops (and my trolley jack is supporting the...

Does anyone use their P38 Offroad

I thought one of the plus points of the P38 was that it just didn't rust? I've never seen a rusty one! Where is yours rusting? Brake pipes don't count!!

Does anyone use their P38 Offroad

I off road mine quite regularly and have only ever got stuck once when I got cross axled in a particularly dodgy stretch of green lane, so they are pretty good in standard form. The EAS is such a fundamental part of what makes the P38 good that I wouldn't consider getting rid of it. You might as...

Any differences between THOR and GEMS cats?

Well that's the problem. Mine is a GEMS (ie pre '99) and the donor is a THOR (post '99). I always thought they were different (mainly because of the number of lambda sensors) but these THOR cats only have a single sensor like mine.

Any differences between THOR and GEMS cats?

Hi All, Just a quickie (I hope). I've been offered a pair of cats from a THOR engined 4.0. Will they be the same as mine (GEMS 4.6)? I thought the THOR vehicles had two lambda sensors per cat, but this only seems to have a single sensor at the front of each cat so I'm hoping they will work...

    Head Reconditioners in Hampshire/Surrey?

Hi All, I'm getting ready to do the head gaskets on my Rangey. Any recommendations for somewhere to skim and generally sort my heads out? I'm probably probably going to do a top end overhaul at the same time. I assume the standard cam is still the best option for replacement? It's done 154k...
