Tyres and Wheels for a 90 - transition from Rostyles/Colways

Is that a typo for 'get', or are you saying you've got a set for sale? (Couldn't find an ad.) That said, I'm not a fan of alloys, to be honest.

    High Low Selection very hard

So, the idea is to be able to use the clutch to rotate bits to help the splines line up when engaging low range?

As a matter of interest, why only do it in gear?

Tyres and Wheels for a 90 - transition from Rostyles/Colways

I don't have 600-odd quid to buy 5 tyres and rims right now, but I do want to change the spare to something decent, and replace the more worn Colway. The other three Colways have a few months left in them, and can be changed in the sprnig. Just now, I can manage 300 to get two Grabber AT2s and...

Tyres and Wheels for a 90 - transition from Rostyles/Colways

Short version... 90 has Rostyles, 3 part-worn Colways, 1 very worn Colway (remould AT), spare tyre is bag of ****e. Want to fit 2 new ATs for now, 3 more in spring. Also thinking of changing to Wolf wheels. Tyres - not sure whether to buy remoulds like Insa Turbos (70-80 quid), or...

Tyres and Wheels for a 90 - transition from Rostyles/Colways

My 1986 90 currently has Rostyle wheels fitted with 235/85x16 Colway AT tyres. One of the Colways is more worn than the others (they have about 6mm of tread left). The spare is an 8-spoke, and its tyre is a piece of worn crap. I also have a 5th Rostyle wheel with the wrong size tyre on it...

What have you done to your Landie today.

Yeah, checking the hose reassured me. It sat at 3/4 when pootling about at 35-40, dropped to a smidge over half when idling for 5-10 minutes, and just got into the orange doing 45-50 on the motorway up a slight incline for a few miles.

What have you done to your Landie today.

Added a thermostat for that luxurious non-brass-monkey interior environment. (Why do previous owners fix duff thermostats by removing them?) However, I discovered that I have an incompatibility between temperature sender and gauge (1986 petrol 90 converted to 200tdi long before I got it). It's...

    screenwash

Never anything less than gourmet **** rated at -25. Discovered Comma radioactive **** in Halfords - rated to -65 when used neat, -25 mixed 50/50. The mix worked fine for me in the -14 we had up here recently. The interesting thing is the Halfords own-brand gourmet **** was £2.40 a litre in the...

How long to fill tank with diesel?

I don't see how it can be specific to the vehicle if I get it at some stations and not at others. At some stations, there is lots of foam which takes ages to disperse, and at others there is virtually no foam.

How long to fill tank with diesel?

Might be fuel-specific. I got foaming regularly with Tesco diesel, and a couple of other brands, but Shell doesn't seem to do it (although I should try a few more Shell garages in case the pumps at my local one are set up differently).

    Fuel Guage Weirdness

Worth having a look at the sender, methinks. Doesn't need something annoying like a new gasket every time it's removed, does it?

    Fuel Guage Weirdness

My fuel guage behaves strangely. Sometimes, it's normal - shows a level of fuel, which changes slightly as I turn corners, etc. Sometimes, it suddenly drops by about two gallons, and sometims jumps back up. Recently (last few days), it has been bouncing up and down as if there was a dodgy...

    Stunned

I've been running 100% bio diesel for the last few weeks. Disregarding the first couple of fills to get the proportion of petrodiesel right down, I was getting 26-28mpg in my '86 90 with a 200tdi. Tyres are oldish Colway 235/85x16 ATs, 32 front, 35 rear. That mileage was a combination of...

    Storing fuel - legal?

Went to the biodiesel place today and filled up for 92p per litre. They we quite happy for me to turn up with lots of 20L jerry cans. Took 40L to fill, so about 2/3rds biodiesel at the moment. Exhaust smells a bit like a chip pan, although not very strong. A fair old puff of white smoke at...

    Storing fuel - legal?

What's the deal with storing fuel in a lockup? I'm thinking of switching to biodiesel, but the nearest place is about 2 gallons of driving away. I'm thinking of getting about 10 jerry cans and filling them up as well, to save on the number of trips I have to make. Is it legal to store it?

What have you done to your Landie today.

Collected my 90 from the local Landy guy, after service and MOT. Pre-MOT inspection revealed missing bump stop, missing exhaust rubber, and a shot rear UJ. Passed MOT with no advisories. Chassis described as "solid", which is very good news for a 24 year old Landy. Decided to put off the...
