Auto start - and keep starting

Just done a good (so I think!) rebuild of the engine - new head, pistons, big end and most of the pipe work and sensors. Anyway, all started ok and run's very very nicely now - the power is stunning. I do have one little problem though... after about 30 mins of running I can hear the starter...

Big end bearings - old part number

The seem to be standard size which is good. Interestingly one of the pistons has what appears to be a dent in from the valve... old injury or new I've no idea. I think I may just go out there and buy new pistons. Anything else I need to check or be worried about?

Big end bearings - old part number

Quick measurement shows that as far as I can tell they are standard sizes. I'm gonna replace the piston rings at the same time and I notice that the piston assembly with new rings is only a few quid more than the rings alone (on paddocks). Is it worth me spending the extra couple of quid and...

Big end bearings - old part number

I've taken the pistons out of my 300tdi, the big end bearings are nicely worn, so I want to replace. They have a part number on them ERC8841 - I can't seem to find any other markings on them and web searches etc give no details of this part number. Do I assume that they are just standard size?

    veggie oil

it's actually just glow plug based until the engine is warm, and yes they do help - even when blending. sorry for commenting on such a retro topic though Sean :blah: . I see no let up of interest if the number of question on my blog are anything to go by.

    veggie oil

I've written a few blog entries on how I converted by 300tdi to veggie oil along with my expience of blends etc... you can find it here. also some stuff on my pre-heater can be found here. tis easy enough to do, but the landy isnt best suited to run on pure veggie oil - especially when it gets...

    Slow to respond rev counter

To add to my list of woes with the poor ole dear, the RPM counter is now lagging behind the actual revs. It only happens some of the time, but it's quite common. i.e. you put you foot on the accelerator, you can hear the engine speed up, then a few seconds later the rpm counter catches up...

    Windscreen clearing

you read my mind. I've found a reference to a heated screen offered as an option with the disco 1's - I wonder if the basic wiring is there. I'm gonna have to do some searching to find out. If I can get the tail wires to stick out somewhere near the screen when it's up for replacement I can...

    glow plugs

Either just replace them cos they are cheap to buy, or take one out and wire directly to the battery. I've done this using a wire from the -ve battery terminal to the body of the glow plug held on with a pair of insulated pliers, then briefly touch the nut end of the glow plug to the +'ve...

    Another Bio Diesel Question

I run my 300tdi on veggie oil with no problems starting or running. I have a pre-heater on the fuel (heated by glow plugs and engine coolant) and run different veggie/diesel mix's depending on the temperature. Otherwise it seems fine to me. Worst thing is having to change the fuel filter more...
