Is this an Engine Oil Overfill??

I personaly wouldn't be overly worried about a 5mm overfill on the dipstick. 25mm yeah, but 5mm will equate to less than a half litre. Mine'd get through that in a week!!:p:p

Hi Jarviea, I bought it off ebay several years ago and never got round to checking if it worked so honestly can't guarantee it. I'm a bit reluctant to sell it because of that. Also, I'm in Ireland and its bulky so shipping will be expensive. Not sure its worth the risk to you. If you want I'll...

What on earth are these little things?

The first thing looks like a rotary coupler cassette for the steering wheel buttons. The wires in the boot are for an amp, subwoofer and cd autochanger. Want to buy a woofer?

    tailgate button locks doors

IIRC the tailgate button is a simple earth loop from the drivers door. If its locking all the doors then most likely the problem is in the drivers door and not the tailgate button.

    PSI power box,vacuum feed,removed EGR?

To the best of my knowledge the powerbox should be plumbed into the map sensor and not the EGR

    P38 Front Hubs

Hi John, I've been laying low, ignoring the rangie for a few months but the diff finally gave up the ghost last week so I had to fix it, herself was sick of me taking her car :p (I nearly paid for the cost of the diff in saved diesel by using her Prius for a week instead of the Rangie )...

p38 dse auto stalls when selecting drive or reverse from idle.

Your fuel pump is showing signs of wear. Get someone with Faultmate to change the idle value for the fuel pump in the EDC from 128 to 129 or 130. It'll tick over at 25 revs higher per increment and will stop stalling. Can also be a symptom of failing in tank sender pump, but I'm pretty...

    P38 Front Hubs

There's a handy trick to making that much easier. Split out the centre of th old bearing so that you have only the outer shell still stuck in the hub. Now run a few lines of weld around the inside of the bearing shell. Then allow the inside to cool abit before pressing out. In a lot of cases...

    P38 Front Hubs

Wantaquad, Irishrover has an excellent step by step guide on doing the hubs. I'll make one suggestion that'll make getting the hubs out of the hub carrier easier. I've just spent the whole weekend swopping the diffs from a scrapper into my Rangie and doing the bushings on the front axle...

    Swapping front diffs on P38

Got a horrible feeling when I went to drain the diff and nothing came out:eek: Then found one of the half shaft oil seals had failed  The pinion gear bearing has failied but my replacement looks good. The diff casing has right coating of horrible brown gunk. Whats the best way of...

    Swapping front diffs on P38

I mangled the front diff on my 2.5 DSE rangie (through no real fault of the rangie, its been whining something terrible for ages but i couldn't do anything about it until now). I've got a one from a scrapper (its a 98 dse with same mileage as my own but feels ok) that should bolt straight...

can you remove the sump without removing the whole engine? 2.5DSE, the BMW engine

There are bolts from the gearbox into the sump, you need to remove these. But other than that I can't remember if there were any other issues.

    No 4 injector question

Thanks Wammers, thats what myself and Sean thought too. Didn't cop that the no.4 was last to fire. The P38 had a replacement engine fitted to it. We weren't sure if say an omega or BMW used a different cylinder for reference (never heard of it but it was an outside chance since the P38 was a...

    No 4 injector question

Why is that? I thought they were the same except for the plug? BTW I came across an engine with the 'no.4 injector' fitted in the no.5 cylinder. Has anyone ever heard of this or did someone just mess up?

    compressor seal and barrell

I've been trying to think of reasons not to but I can't. The aluminium will dissipate more heat than stainless but will also expand more when hot so its six of one half dozen of the other. The aluminium may also have a low friction coating on it but like you I had a dutch 'uprated' seal go...

    compressor seal and barrell

Pat, As a short term fix you could try getting someone in an engineering shop to cut a lip onto the bottom of the barrel with a lathe and just turn it upside down. It would be a 10 minute job for the right person. Why did it happen? On one of mine before, a piece of casting flash on the...

    Fault Mate

No problem with that. I have an SV licence for my own P38 on one of the 3 identities. I then have a few multi vehicle modules for RRC and P38 on the 2nd identity. Looking at getting an SV for the gaylander at work on the 3rd identity. Its a brilliant piece of kit  And the owners...
