    1998 P38 - Lack of acceleration at speed/uphill

Maf sensor would be my bet. My previous P38 had exactly the same issues on long uphill stretches. Renewed the Maf and it was like a new engine was under the bonnet(hood). The fact you've cleaned it and found improvement would suggest it. Ideal situation would be to swap for a known good unit to...

    Transmission Cooler Replacement.

Thanks for that Vogue. Seems simple enough but as it looks original guess there could be some grief with 20 year old nuts and bolts!! Any idea what year the cooler is from. Its a Vin sensitive part and needs to be from a KA vin number onwards. Thanks for the offer.

    Transmission Cooler Replacement.

My Bog Brush (Trans Cooler) has perished on the LSE. My copy of Rave doesn't seem to cover it at all and there's no mention of it in the haynes manual either. I've had a quick peep and replacing through the front grill seems to be the best way to go. Can anybody that's done this before shed...

    2.5 diesel MPG

Gonna be the first of the LPG boys to chip in. Currently paying 67.9p for LPG, Diesel at the same garage has just hit 139.9p. I average 12mpg around town and about 17mpg on a run. The change over from petrol is within half a mile from cold and will start on gas until started again from stone...

arnott gen 3 springs? does anybody have them?

I had Gen lll's on my last P38 for a good few years and approx 30k miles. Whilst the longer travel is often mentioned the other attribute of less body roll is often over looked. For example I often get on the M25 at junction 18 going clockwise, which is quite a sweeping turn. In my old P38 I...

    sync mate fixed it

    4.0 Westminster or 4.6 Vogue?

They've both been bored to within an inch of their life its the stroke that's different so your just as likely to suffer terminal failure in both. Perhaps the Westminster for rarity, personal choice really, I'd just get the one that was the better car. As Data said, percentage wise the diesel...

    do i upgrade to a 2003 model L322?

I think people are starting to compare apples and oranges. The original post asked about possible purchase of a 2003 L322. If someone offered me a 2009 TDV8 for £10K my P38 would be down the scrappers before my heat seaters had warmed up. But a tired out 2003 L322 with space ship mileage for...

    do i upgrade to a 2003 model L322?

Take a test drive and see what you think. Whilst the TD6 is a better engine than the P38 diesel, for an expensive car (when new) its still not very good. We changed recently and stayed with a low mileage P38 having test driven a few L322's. I wasn't prepared to pay over £10k for a RR so the...

Who said this was a good idea??

But Saint has the added advantage that if he sets off at sunrise he will get to 60mph before sunset and the bonus of a nice V8 rumble:)

    deisel or lpg

LPG every time. Costs the same to run as a snoozel but gets to 60 in less than a day and doesn't need 10 miles of motorway to get there:) Lots of scare stories regarding LPG. A well fitted multipoint system and an A1 cooling system and you'll be fine. Its all luck of the draw with these P38's...

    lpg

Probably more important to find a better installer rather than a better system, as most modern sequential systems are up to the job if fitted well. You pays your money and take your choice. Prins and BRC are supposed to be the dogs danglies, but expect to pay as much as a grand more to have...

Pinking... but high CO at MOT?!?

A few years ago my P38 was pinking under load and was also down on power. The power issue made me investigate the MAF sensor which I replaced and both things were sorted straight away, never pinked again. Should add that was on a Thor engine and not a Gems.

    thermostat question?

If it is the thermostat I would recommend you go genuine part only. I had several issues with cheaper copies on my last P38. Went genuine in the end and had 10000 trouble free miles with it. And when you check out suppliers and see them priced up at £25.00 to £30.00 and think that's the genuine...

    Average MPG for 1995 3.9l

My LSE (4.2 not 3.9) averages between 10 and 12 mpg around town and between 16 and 20 on a run (depending on weight) when running on LPG. That's a bigas single point system that's only 14 months old and tuned regularly (you can do this yourself with the software) Its fitted with 2 torpedoes and...

    nanocom help

Blimey mate, I'd be looking for another garage. My local indy does it while you wait and that's if you turn up without being booked in, only takes minutes. Hope someone can help you out.

Newer Range Rover: would you go for RRS or FFRR?

Having owned a TDV6 Disco 3 for 3 years and driven a L322 TD6 quite a few times the TDV6 makes the TD6 seem prehistoric. Whilst a step up from the 2.5 in the P38, because of the extra weight in the L322 the engine is simply not up to the job. Land Rover or BMW should be ashamed for letting a...

    late p38 or early l322

£7K will buy you a very nice P38 (and leave change) but only get you a very tired L322, that's if you can find a diesel at all at that price and if you can expect space ship mileage. Just had the same choice to make ourselves, opted for an 02 P38 with 40k on the clock. Haven't regretted the...

haynes manual for my 05,where can i get it.

Even on a Classic the haynes manual often refers you to use the services of a professional, so on something as complex as an L322 if a haynes manual was available (I'm 99.9% certain its not) I guess that would be written on every page:D
