    Is a TDV8 worth it?

    LPG'd P38 Equivalent to late 20's mpg and a damn sight quicker than a TD6 :p

    what range rover

Just to throw a spanner in the works, my last off the line 2002 P38 is a Vogue SE. For that you get a few more speakers for your stereo, different colour wood (a greeny colour, not as bad as it sounds), light coloured gear knob, snazzy surrounds on the interior door locks and a in CD holder...

    2002-2005 V8 M62 Water Pump Replacement.....fun!

5 hours of your own time still a lot cheaper than 2.7 hrs at £100 an hour:D Top job and write up saint and will provide much help to owners of L322's. Whilst us p38 owners drive off in to the sun set on a wave of reliability:D You sure your not getting tired of Mk3 ownership? Only joking, top...

    l322 Petrol or Diesel

Came with every bill ever spent on it. Had the blend motors changed at 30K apart from that routine servicing. The first owner having spent the best part of £50K on it then proceeded to cover 2900 miles in three years, it would have been cheaper to employ a chauffeur with his own car. 2nd owner...

    l322 Petrol or Diesel

You must have driven some bad P38's:p Unless you go newer on an L322 it will end in tears:D Look at saint, who has the patience of a saint, has the ability to diy and is Range Rovers biggest fan, but I sense even he is reminiscing about the good ole days of Classics and P38's, when RR...

Blimey now that's what I call a winter premium !

I was tempted until the 'superior bmw engine with good fuel economy and great performance' was mentioned. Now I know Julien just tells loads of porky's

    trading down to a disco?

A Disco 3 is definitely not a step down from a P38. Owned one for 3 years and it was a superb motor. Had usual LR reliability issues and I got rid of it at the end of the warranty. They were fairly new then and DIY was non existent so didn't want to risk the maintenance bills. But when it worked...

Just like the Girlfriend was - I am a little disappointed....

I guess that happened when Range Rovers became more Chelsea tractor and comfort and refinement were number 1 on the list and off road use became secondary. Although as we all know in the right hands they still do the business in the dirty stuff.

    -how long to change diff

With the cost of filling one of these (Petrol or Diesel) now well over £100, I always consider any repair under £500 good value!!

Just like the Girlfriend was - I am a little disappointed....

As Data says I don't think traction is an issue, it's just not knowing when it runs out, probably due to the great fat tyres and heavy running gear. My Classic always gave more feed back with its narrow tyres but I still think the P38 is as good if not better in the snow.

Just like the Girlfriend was - I am a little disappointed....

A good 4 or 5 inches here and it's still falling hard and saint if that's a car park at Heathrow I'm only about 12 miles north of you. As for traction, pulling away from stand still on steep hills on fresh and compacted snow with ease would suggest my winter tyres and the Rangie are doing...

Tyre Man Help Winter Tyres. Should I be confident

I run Avon Ranger Ice winter tyres (I'm assuming you've got 18' wheels) I have them for regular Scandinavian trips rather than use at home (I'm a Southern Softie) and at home a mud and snow tyre would be adequate. The Avons preformed fine right up to Northern Norway last year and are available...

OK OK So ive been in denial !!

Just a shame the computer bits didn't make there way into Range Rovers:D

OK OK So ive been in denial !!

Nice is in the eye of the beholder. Quality is there for all to see and early L322's look as low rent as P38's. Those buttons that work the sat nav look like they came off an Amstrad stereo, although I realize Amstrad were probably around before your time. For info they made cheap stereos and...

OK OK So ive been in denial !!

This is very true and for the 2 days a year we have snow I'll leave it on the drive. For the other 363 I'll make full use of the 370BHP:) I know they are different animals in their design, the comparison I was trying to make was that in their day they were both prestige expensive motors. It...

    V8 hesitation at 2.5k onwards

My last P38 suffered lack of power in mid range, it turned out to be a faulty MAF sensor. Changed it and it was like a new animal. One of those parts to change for the genuine article though, lots of cheap copies out there that aren't up to the job.

    need tyres

+2 or 3 (I lost count) on the General UHP's. Very smooth quiet tyre and will handle light snow and light mud easily, but you'll need something more for serious dirt.

OK OK So ive been in denial !!

If it were me I'd spend the money and get the P38 fixed properly. That way all your time and effort won't have been wasted and the biggest expense will have been sorted. The P38's aren't showing the same rotting problems of the Classics so you're sorted for years. Unless you've got loads of...

The OP would have done but as he's from Milton Keynes with all the stop start stuff because of the roundabouts he wanted to get across town in less than a day:D
