    Today's mystery - 300 TDi ignition key

1996 300 TDi CSW. Well today I finally got myself organised and had a second door and ignition key cut using a local key cutting service - when I bought the vehicle it only came with one set plus one alarm/immobiliser PLIP unit. No issues with the keys doing their job but when the engine has...

    Front Air Vent Flaps

The two which are just below the windscreen on the exterior - I'm just about to order up some new seals but whilst peering on the underside to see how to remove them, I noticed that one opens quite a lot further than the other. So the question is are they adjustable and if so can someone advise...

Thanks guys for the replies which are much appreciated - yes, I'll do it the proper way having listened to you.

    Radio Aerial Replacement

I need to replace my standard radio aerial as the top section has gone walkabouts - shouldn't be too much of a problem but just in case there were a few tips to be had, I searched various forums for advice. Have I understood this correctly - that the existing lead (coax) can be cut (in the...

(hopefully) buying a Freelander 2 tomorrow - anything to look out for?

I've had two Freelander 2's in a row - I've owned my current XS from new and it's now about two years old - the original was also purchased from new and was about four years old when I sold it. No issues whatsoever with either other than the current vehicle which had a minor problem with a...

    Hill Descent Switch

Can some kind member tell me if the Hill Descent Switch should be illuminated. Spent last night in the depths of Exmoor on a charity event and had to use the Mud/Ruts selection to get me out of a muddy field - selecting this of course brings on the hill descent mode also which I didn't have to...

    1996 Defender 90 CSW - radio question(s)

Thanks for the replies everyone which are much appreciated and to Nobber for the Youtube recommendation. Turned out to be a much simpler job than I thought - a bit of very light tin bashing on the edge of the radio metal casing seems to have straightened most of it out. I never play the radio...

    1996 Defender 90 CSW - radio question(s)

The next small irritation to tackle is the radio which works but has a habit of dropping the removable operating facia on the vehicle floor when going over bumpy ground. The radio is a Kenwood KDC-W4031 - I really don't know if this was a standard fit at the time of the vehicle build. On...

How to do the Clutch Spring Mod

Please ignor my text below - I googled the number provided and realise it's to lighten the pedal pressure on TD5's. Not suitable for my 300 TDi. Apologies for my ignorance because I wasn't aware that a modification existed to the clutch pedal - what is the benefit having done this? The...

    some advice on my defender

The heater control lever on my 300 TDi is a bit tempremental and needs a bit of a fore and aft and up and down wiggle to get it to work - give it a go.

    300tdi headrests

I've recently come across this myself having taken delivery of some Exmoor Trim seat covers. As already stated they are quite difficult to remove but persevere, when hitting the headrests be careful not to belt yourself in the mouth like I did!

    Hub Seal Insertion Tool

Well what a site this is - thank you everybody for your ideas and thanks to you Ivan for your kind offer. Never thought of using an old bearing with a cut out in it - now I know, I can modify this at my end using a removed bearing but I appreciate the kind offer. Ian

    Hub Seal Insertion Tool

If it was a reasonable price I'd like to buy the tool for inserting the above which appears to go under the Part No. LRT 54-001. Another manufacturers copy would be fine and probably a lot cheaper but having searched Rimmers and Paddocks with no luck I'm asking if anybody has any knowledge of...

R380 Gearbox - big nut removal

1996 90 300TDi CSW. Apologies for asking about this as I think I've seen other queries on the same subject and as it didn't apply to any problems I was having at the time, I didn't take much notice (I have looked for similar threads but couldn't find anything). The day started with removing...

    Wow!!!

Had a similar problem on my 1996 90 300 TDi with the rear wiper arm fouling the spare tyre but perhaps the biggest issue was that I couldn't get my hand in the gap to operate the rear door latch. The vehicle was already fitted with similar (as shown) threaded adjusters but in order to...

    Can somebody

Well I was nearly tempted there but I just couldn't part with it. 1996 90 CSW 300 TDi. In the last twelve months it's had the following (in no particular order): Marsland galvanised chassis, new exhaust system, 4 calipers and pads, 4 discs, new brake pipes, cambelt, auxiliary belt tensioner...

    Bulbs

Had exactly the same on my 300 TDi - for a permanent solution the only way is to replace the whole light. Online it looked as though the bulb holder itself was replaceable but I could get no sense on this from LR parts suppliers.

    wheel bearing hell.....

It's not the end of the world if you can't remove it without damaging the stub axle - they are pretty cheap. I had to replace a stub on mine because the collapsed bearing had damaged the surface so badly that I couldn't put a new bearing on - from memory I think it was about £20.00.

    CSW rear sliding window rattle!

Thanks for that also - I've seen threads on this subject before and never really understood what the writer was talking about. It was probably okay if you were familiar with the materials which were recommended to be used, but I wasn't so therefore left it alone. For some time I have been...
