Plug Missing on My Transmission. Please Help

Hi, I was underneath my Discovery (1996, 300 TDI, mech gearbox) to change engine oil and discovered a missing plug on the transmission. Please see the picture. Checked the service manual and no matter how hard I'm trying, I cannot find that plug in the book... It is a drainplug, isn't it...

Which Car Battery Charger for a Flat Bosch S4?

Hi, While I've been doing bodywork on my SORN Disco, the battery's decided to go flat on me. One fine night the alarm went off indicating that there's not much juice left. I guess I need an automatic charger now but I don't fancy spending 40 quid on a HalfLord's one. There's a dodgy looking...

Electric Headlight Adjuster - Looking for a Part

Folks, can you please confirm that I'm not wrong :) I ordered a spare motor from a popular Landy breaker and he sent me, emh, a broken part... At least I think it is broken but before I go and give him abuse I'd like to make sure I'm right. Well, the metal arm on this replacement part is not...

Electric Headlight Adjuster - Looking for a Part

Hi, One of my headlight adjusters has snapped off. I anticipated it to be an easy DIY job but there's something that puzzles me. I see that all Discovery TD300 (1996) headlight adjuster kits comprise 3 mechanical units. Mine has two mechanical units at the top and one electric at the bottom...

    Anyone Tried Hammerite Paint?

Hi, I'm getting my rotten floor sorted. I was thinking, after the welding is done, the rust is bound to return? Are there any measures? I've seen Hammerite paint advertised claiming that it turns rust into something... I don't know how much of it is fluff and how much truth? Has anyone...

How to Remove the Plastic Step from the Sill?

Oh, cheers for the tips. With regards to the seats, I've located the screws, but each time I try to undo one of them, the nut (underneath the floor) will turn with the screw and self-fasten. :( Need something to hold them nuts fixed so that they don't turn. Yeah, I mean, it is funny how...

How to Remove the Plastic Step from the Sill?

Hi guys, I'm taking my 1996 Disco TD300 apart (full body repair etc...) and I'm obviously struggling with removing certain bits. In many cases WD40 and a screwdriver do just fine but... For example the plastic cover of the sill. It seems to me there are plastic rivets here and there holding...

Radiator Bleed screws on Disco 300 TDI??

Hi, Decided I need to flush the coolant and fill in new one but I'm a bit puzzled. There seem to be two bleed screws (or at least thingies that look like bleed screws) One is on top of the thermostat and another one closer to the radiator (on a hose). So, which 'un I use to get rid of...

How to Change a Turning Signal Bulb on Discovery I?

:D Last time I checked it was indeed a Disco It is 1996 and it is a 300TDI, sorry, shoulda mentioned it in my question. I've got a very narrow passage behind the turning signal's housing. I can barely squeeze my hand in.

How to Change a Turning Signal Bulb on Discovery I?

Hi, One of my front turning signals has gone out. Am I right in thinking that I have to remove the headlamp in order to gain access to the turning signal? One thing that puzzles me about the turning signal housing is this small white hexagonal thing... I'm sure I'll have to unscrew it to...

Changed Gearbox Oil and Lost Two Gears. Help!

If I read it correctly, it's MTF94. Good point there. Although, I got no idea what the D2 is (noob, yeah), I think I know where my filler plug is... It will be a challenge to get some of the fluid out, though (that's if there is any fluid)... I cannot wait to see what's in my box.

Changed Gearbox Oil and Lost Two Gears. Help!

Yes, according to the invoice, but I have no way of telling if that not-speak-English person has actually put any oil in at all. Should I check? But then, if there is some liquid inside, how can I tell if it's the right kind of liquid?

Changed Gearbox Oil and Lost Two Gears. Help!

Hi guys, Got somebody to replace my gearbox oil because I was too busy to do it myself. The very next day I lost the 1st and 2nd gear. It is something to do with the switching mechanism, not the gears, because when I finally get into the gears (after crazy shifting and swearing) they're...

    Disco-mad Kid from Poole

Hi, Motorhead 'ere from Poole, Dorset. After going through a string of boring cars I've found my dream car at last - a Disco 300Tdi:dance: Well, what can I say - I'm enjoying every minute but it's a steep learning curve as I'm trying to do as much maintenance myself as possible.
