    Freelander 1.8 Petrol

Hi Les Dames, Two enthusiastic people should be more than enough to replace the clutch. In fact, I'm currently planning this job for my 1.8 with just one and a half entusiastic people (I'm the enthusiastic one - my mate will just be there for the ride!) You can download a RAVE manual online...

    Freelander flat/dead spot

Possibly an answer in the sticky at the top of the page!

Which kind of colling fluid to use???

The blue stuff will do the job. In fact, I've just 'fitted' it in my 1.8 K series, along with a new rad and remote thermostat kit. The essential differences are that the pink stuff has a longer life and certain other benefits - such as a UV fluorescent additive, which assists when tracing...

New Radiator - About Time by The Looks of The Old One!

Spent a very long and frustrating Saturday fitting a new radiator and PRT Thermostat kit to my 1.8K series. Will follow with a seperate write up on the frustrations of fitting the PRT kit (what idiot put the original thermostat where it is!). In the meantime, thought I'd share some pictures...

Which kind of colling fluid to use???

If you are changing from blue Antifreeze (Ethyl Glycol - I think) to the pink stuff (Organic Additive Technology - OAT) then make sure you fully drain and flush the old stuff out first. Never mix the two in the same system.

    Inlet Manifold Nuts

Cheers Freelance. As it goes, I've bitten the bullet and shelled out for new ones! Using the car for a tour of the Lake District in two weeks, so trying to leave nothing to chance. Mind you, I did think it was a bit belt and braces of LR to suggest these get replaced. On the other hand...

    Inlet Manifold Nuts

At the weekend, I'm, going to be fitting a new rad and pressure relief thermostat to my 1.8K Series. Whilst I have the cooling system drained, it seems to make sense to change the inlet manifold gasket. Having priced up the parts for this, I was a little surprised to find that the specified...

Home Made Cooling System Pressure Tester - Save Yourself £70

Thanks MHM. That's exactly the sort of thing that I was looking for. Will definitely try to get one and modify the kit. One thing I didn't mention in the write up is that you need to cable tie the trigger on the tyre inflator into the open (fully squuezed) position. If you don't do that then...

    Tool lrt-54-026 Surely a joke

I wouldn't worry too much about it, Choo. If I'm correct, I think this is a driveshaft removal tool. The same effect can be acheived, using a couple of stout screwdrivers, levering against the inner driveshaft joint.

Home Made Cooling System Pressure Tester - Save Yourself £70

As some of you may know (from my earlier threads) I am currently trying to locate a leak in the cooling system of my 1.8 K series. Obviously, the smart way to do this is by properly pressure testing the system. The only problem is that the cheapest pressure tester that I have so far located...

    K Series Thermostat Mod

Thanks for that - I did think that I may do the manifold gasket at the same time. To be honest, I don't actually think it's leaking at the moment, but I guess it's one of those jobs that's worth doing when you've got the cooling system drained down. I recall reading a LR Service Bulletin...

    K Series Thermostat Mod

Cheers BigDaftAl. Think I'll go for it. Mind you, I just had a look at the location of the current thermostat housing - could they have made it less accessible!!!

    K Series Thermostat Mod

Is the dealer recommended thermostat mod (remotely mounted in bottom hose) worth doing? As it goes, I think both my top and bottom hoses need replacing, so it's probably the best time to do this if I am going to. Just don't want to shell out the thick end of £100 if it's not going to have...

    Mystery Collant Loss

The wife met me from the station this evening in the Hippo. A really hot evening and it had been standing for a while. As I walked around the front to get in, I was greeted with the unmistakable smell of warm coolant. When I got home I got straight under the bonnet and, after a bit of...

    Freelander beeping

Personally, I don't think it matters what's asked - as long as Storm99 replies! We need that animation on every forum page:D

    Mystery Collant Loss

Think I may be getting somewhere with this. Yesterday, I slipped the yellow plastic collar off of the expansion tank to see what sort of shape the filler neck was in (where it forms the top part of the bottle). The plastic looks very craked - a network of fine cracks radiating out from the...

    IRD oil leak?

Hi RichM, Most likely to be a bit of residue from when it was drained. Mind you, I wouldn't have thought that you'd find it on the undertray, also. May be worth checking that he used a new sealing washer whe he refilled the IRD. If not, I'd order yourself one (and a filler plug washer)...

What's lurking In Your Clutch Hydraulics (and other photos)

Yesterday, I spent a very hot couple of hours replacing the clutch hydraulics on my 2000 1.8 Freelander. I know that conventional wisdom states that you really only need to do this when the pedal goes flat on the floor, but the rubbery feel at my clutch pedal made me think that it had to be...

    Mystery Collant Loss

Thanks Optimus Prime. New expansion tank bottle cap sourced and fitted today. Will also check the neck of the bottle. May see if I can turn the old cap bottle into a pressure tester! It's funny, but there has clearly been a lot of coolant getting out this way - judging by the sticky residue...

    Mystery Collant Loss

Cheers WSLR, I did wonder if coolant leaking past the inlet manifold would affect the O2 sensor. May hook my OBDII up to it later and see how the O2 sensor readings look. Cheers, Ian.
