    Remote central locking

The previous owner (and me to begin with) didn't know my disco had remote central locking at all. I guess the owner before him had lost it. I don't know if remote central locking was standard equipment but you might find yours has the ECU for it - have a look in your fusebox under the steering...

    Remote central locking

This site may be able to help: http://www.remotekey.co.uk/cars/land-rover/discovery-I-1993/ I got a one-button fob for my '94 200tdi, programmed it using the supplied instructions and it works great.

Best thing for a Discovery is a gallon of petrol and a match !

Just about. I loaded a few layers of old bricks in the back and then an old tumble drier on top! I don't believe in all this "this cars crap coz it can't do X or this cars better coz it can do Y". A car is better or worse depending on what you want it for. I have a disco because it easily...

    waxoyl

Sound like they're a bunch of ****e then. :-( I was thinking of painting the stuff on first (couple of coats) and then painting over it with underseal. I just found a new patch in the passenger footwell that's being munched by rust as we speak. I guess it should slow it down a bit at least.

    what reg discos are 200tdi?

Mines a 200tdi, first registered in '94, L reg. I've seen L reg 300tdis driving around too so that's the year they changed over.

Are these products any good: Hammerite UK - Metal Paint: No.1 Rust Beater Hammerite UK - Metal Paint: Kurust ? I used kurust on my old maestro (piece of crap!). There was a bit of rust on the door about 5 cm across that I couldn't be arsed to fix properly so I stuck kurust on it and left it...

    Difflock

Search the forum on this one, there's tons of stuff and a good external link. Much of the time the sideways slidey thing has rusted up. Easiest way to get access is to remove the centre console and drill out the rivets on the rubber thing underneath. Obviously you'll need a hand riveter to...

Some Tw*T just ran into me.

Couldn't agree more with this. A mate of mine got rear ended in his car - it was written off - he got the replacement value of the car minus a few hundred quid to buy it back, then he and a mate fixed it up for the cost of the parts. I think he ended up with about £1000 profit once the car was...

I'll try this next time, sounds much better and quicker than my crappy solution!!

    transfer box problems 200tdi

On mine when switching from H->L or L->H I sometimes have to put the transfer box in neutral, main box in a gear and let clutch up for a few seconds. Then take out of main gear and try selecting H or L again. Usually does the trick first time. I've also found being quick and positive with...

    Fuel sedimenter

From what I've read it's likely to break, but it's pretty easy to bypass it if it does. I'm in the same boat - keep meaning to do mine but always put it off because of the fear.

£2300, it only went in for a service !!!

Heh heh, me too. I just get the absolute minimum fixed to keep it on the road these days, while of course keeping an eye out for things that will break properly if left unfixed.

    whining

OK narrowed it down a bit. It only does it when the engine has warmed up, and it does it when sticking yer head in the engine and finger revving. The noise comes in when the engine speeds up, stays if the revs are maintained and drops off again with engine speed. It seems to be coming...

    Heavy vibration.

You say you have 2 300tdi discos? What I'd do is take the prop off the good motor and stick it on the bad one and see if the problem is the same. Make sure you mark where the flanges align though so you can put it back on exactly the same as it came off.

    D3 Possible warranty claim?

Wow some people are massively over-sensitive, think he had a sheltered up-bringing? He'd even asked for an honest opinion too which cracks me up - be careful what you ask for... you just might get it. :D

    missing jack

The jack should in the engine bay behind the passenger side headlight. The handle should be in 2 parts under the back seat. If you haven't got 'em I think it's a pretty standard bottle jack but it has a curved top rather than round. I'll post a pic of mine if u need...

    whining

I think it is the turbo because it's not there when coasting and it's not there when revving the engine in neutral. It's definitely a new noise and different from the usual whooshing turbo noise. Could it be the early signs of something bad, and is there anything I can do about it? Also...

    whining

Hi all, was driving along today with the window down and noticed whining. I told the missus to shut up but the noise was still there. Any suggestions on how to further narrow down where it's coming from? It's a 200tdi and it seems to mainly happen when I accelerate in 2nd or 3rd to about...

89 to 93 discovery workshop manual

I bought a cd off beamends for about £13 which has the 89-94 200tdi / V8 workshop and parts manuals on it. It doesn't look like they do mail order anymore though but I'm sure other places will sell it. Try rimmer bros or paddocks, craddocks etc. It had part number 19LHP3 but I don't know if...
