this is after removing the prop. I don't usualy use diff lock as I am driving on the road but have used it properly recently.

So I have removed the rear prop and road tested. The sound has gone away, the prop apears to be ok. The isue I was having though was regulay, every 10 secs or so, the gear box sounded like it was jumping and the diff lock light would flash out. Sounded like the box was about to fail?

Slidy thingy seems ok to, James I think this is more likely to be a mechanical problem as it has come on rapidly yesterday and worse today, but will try a quick swap.

Just an update, looked further into it and found that the steering colum rubber was loose so replaced this and it seems to have sorted it out completely. Not easy to spot the fault by looking, but exentuated by the steering wheel. Cheers

Just change my steering box on my 200tdi for a recon one mainly becuse it was leaking. The recon box seems to have about an inch of play on the stering wheel, is this correct or should I be going back to the supplier about it? Thanks

The body is Aluminium... Its the rust underneath on the steel parts that you need to worry about.

Just make sure you have a good recovery service!
