    VCU Torque test results

They say this? Hence my confusion It has been reported on some internet sites that to test the VCU if you jack the one back wheel of your Freelander without the handbrake applied you should be able to turn the rear wheel and that if you cannot turn the wheel your VCU has seized -THIS IS TOTAL...

    VCU Torque test results

Just been on Bell Engineering website as they are recommended on another thread regarding transmission issues and they kinda poo poo the OWUT? Really confused at this point

    Quick question on the VCU

I'm so confused about the VCU post because I've recently put a post on about this issue and been recommended I do this test and also contacting Bells Engineering. If you go on their website they basically say the OWUT is a waste of time? I was going to do it tomorrow but is it worth it?

    Freelander 1 Full lock lurches

just took it out for a spin. It drives ok. pulling out of junctions no noise or juddering but (this may be just in my head) feels as if the breaks on on. Full lock in reverse no noise but doesn't want to roll. Full lock forward the car isn't happy, knocking and lurching. I'll hopefully get the...

    Freelander 1 Full lock lurches

looks like it may be a sell for spares or repairs at this rate. I had a transfer box go on a Grand Cherokee I had once. I had a recon put on for £400 fitted and it is still going strong but in the Landy it sounds like a much dearer job :(

    VCU Torque test results

So just let me get this right as I want to try it tomorrow. One rear wheel jacked off the ground. Socket on the axle nut. 1.5m extension on the socket wrench. 5kg weight on the end on the extension bar. Record the length of time the bar take to rotate from 45 degrees to 90 degress. Less than a...

    Freelander 1 Full lock lurches

I've just watched your video on Youtube! Mine only makes a clunking noise on full lock and not when driving but clearly there's something proper wrong. It's a 99 model with 80k on the clock, new MOT and paid £400 for it. First job I guess is to check the VCU? Is it possible that one has gone...

    Freelander 1 Full lock lurches

Aww man it gets worse. Just trawling youtube and it talks about this issue and a number of people have simply removed the prop shaft like mine. But They've mentioned they fitted a blanking off plate on the back of the IRD. Mine didn't have a blanking plate?

    Freelander 1 Full lock lurches

Bugga. While driving it's fine it's just on full lock. Not sure what a VCU or IRD is? But sounds like a big job?

    Freelander 1 Full lock lurches

Sorry if this has been asked before but, I've not had the Landy long and really love it. The guy I bought it off has been running it without the rear drive shaft to 'improve the MPG'. So, with winter coming and I want my 4x4 to be 4x4 I've put the shaft back on today. But When I put the...

    How close it too close?

Rather than risk blowing yourself up (vapours) or setting fire to the Landy I'd always remove the tank.

    Fitting an Engine preheater

That's a bit clever, I like that. I had a diesel vectra and you had to wait 3 hours to get it warm enough to demist anything. On a mildly chilly day I would often find myself feeling like Ernest Shackleton.

LOL they are pretty big I must confess, I have 3 of them. I have a van for them and am on the hunt for a nice Landy for me, just can't decide which to go for as yet.

    Freelander 1 Steering rack pipe
