I had a problem with the bias plate on my 200 tdi a few weeks ago,it turned out the actual plate had moved over slightly so after having the console out and getting to the plate i moved it back to the correct posistion and thought job done,however 300 miles later and the thing has moved again...

I had this problem on my 200 tdi like the big lad said its the bias plate at the bottom of the gear stick only mine had not broken it had moved a little bit i undone the four bolts that hold it in posistion moved it back to the correct posistion and problem solved.

why would you want to do that?

HI everyone been having a problem recently with my gear lever(5 speed box)it would not spring back into posistion on its own and the stick felt very slack spoke to a mate he said it maybe the bias plate or one of the two springs,so i had the console off today got to the bias plate and springs...
