Disco 1 200TDi exhaust blowing from back of head

Gasket-wise, am I right in thinking there are more than one type of gasket, and I won't know which one I need until I get the old one out?

Disco 1 200TDi exhaust blowing from back of head

Ok thanks - that's something at least. I'll have a search around here on the forum for any posts saying how to replace the head gasket on these engines. Or is it pretty much the same as on a 300TDi? I don't know what the differences are between the 200Tdi and 300 Tdi to be honest.

Disco 1 200TDi exhaust blowing from back of head

HG as in head gasket I assume? If so, b*****ks. Not what I need right now! Any advice on further checks to confirm if it is the head gasket?

Disco 1 200TDi exhaust blowing from back of head

Hi all I appear to have an exhaust blow from the back of the cylinder head. I have held my hand around the exhaust manifold and can't feel any leaks there, but if I put my hand between the back of the head and the bulkhead from the opposite side of the engine to the exhaust manifold I can feel...

    Disco 1 Various electrical issues

Ah, fusible links! Right, that'll be the next thing to check although I suspect the spark at the handbrake cable might be a different issue (?) Still, it's something to have a poke about at.

    Disco 1 Various electrical issues

Hi all Time to address the various electrical issues that bug me but I just live with. One I knew about a while ago and thought I'd sorted - when I detached and reattached the handbrake cable to the handbrake lever, I noticed a tiny spark. Bad earth somewhere was what I discovered when I...

    Disco 1 Vacuum pipe connection

Managed to get a replacement from the scrapyard when I went and picked up a starter motor. Was a bitch to get the one out at the scrapper - the guy there did it though and gave me the bit plus vacuum hose for free. My broken one came out easier - levered it out with a couple of flat head...

    Disco 1 Starter motor 200TDi

Hi all So I need a new starter motor for my 93 Discovery 1 200. Is the starter on the 300 the same as on the 200. Thanks in advance. Grant

    Disco 1 Vacuum pipe connection

Ok, rookie question - so supposing in the meantime I try and repair it. What would the symptoms be if there's a vacuum leak? Brakes won't work as efficiently?

    Disco 1 Vacuum pipe connection

Yeah heading to a breakers tomorrow in the hope that they've got a starter motor too. Just thinking that the chances of getting a replacement non-return valve out in one piece are pretty slim by the sounds of it

Could I try glueing it? Or would that just add to my muppet status?

    Disco 1 Vacuum pipe connection

Thanks for your reply. Checked it out, but the photo doesn't show the plastic 90 degree bend which is the part that broke. Is that a separate part?

    Disco 1 Vacuum pipe connection

Hi all The forum's search function seems to be malfunctioning so apologies if this has already been covered before... While battling to get the starter motor out to bench test it (it's knackered) I broke the plastic 90 degree vacuum connector attached to the brake servo - Is this an easily...

    Hello from Portugal

Hi all Just a quick introduction - I'm running a 1993 Discovery here in Central Portugal. Bit of a bag of nails that I plan to keep running - you wouldn't believe the prices of 2nd hand motors here! I've been browsing the forum for a few months now, and will keep doing so along with asking...
