in my 1981 series 3 I was replacing the heater fan (blades came off) and noticed a cylinder shaped thing inside the fan unit, the one attached to the wing, the cylinder looks (not entirely sure of this) like its a ceramic cylinder with wire wrapped around it in a spring shape, like an old style...

my current Series 1981 series 3, she has the 5 bearing petrol and salisbury diff. all legal too :D

is the chassis any different forward from the front axle when you compare a 1959 series 2 and a series 3? also lwb/swb? are they any different?

3.54 salisbury rear and 3.54 landy front on mine :D and the speedo is correct too, got all the stuff off a stage 1 v8. leaf sprung beast that the army used over here for a long time. so they are mostly pretty beaten up

yea thats what Im thinking, only thing is I have heard the replacement relay's can be badly made (dangerously in this case) is it possible to replace the seal on a relay without getting mixed up with that spring? I might try getting a new crossmember. remove the relay and replace the seal and...

today I noticed a new drip from the landy :eek: so had a look and it turns out the steering relay is ****ing oil. took the grill of and had a look at it from the top, that was when I noticed the hole in the chassis, its just on the radiator side of the steering relay and goes UNDER it. looks...

I have TLS 11" drums all round. braking doesn't seem a problem.

do any engine mounts need to be moved. and does it bolt straight onto the series 3 gearbox, also how does the flywheel and clutch stuff fit?

a deal has just come up, and its hard to miss. problem is my 2.25 pet is going nicely at the moment. but its a defender 2.5 TD (or so the guy says) this sounds like its a 200tdi to me. and its only clocked 150 000kms also I hear the defender 200tdi doesn't have a problem with the turbo...

somewhere in the drivetrain when I go over a bump. not every time and I don't think its the diff, its not the driveshaft or gearbox. im thinking its to do with the suspension. maybe the spring bushes? how can I tell if its the spring bushes?

been doing a bit of searching, if this has already come up then sorry :doh: anyway in a 2.25 petrol. is this a case of its its not broken then don't fix it? im hoping to squeeze a few more mpg out and make it a bit quieter (its actually not that loud, but i do like quiet)
