Are relays vehicle or circuit specific?

I know this will probably sound like a dumb question to most, but I simply don't know and several Googles later I'm still none the wiser. Are relays as interchangeable as fuses, i.e. can I just pick up any "40A" relay from Halfrauds and swap it with one that's burnt out? Or do I need to find a...

1995 Range Rover HSE - Some issues to overcome

Right - I'm downloading RAVE as we speak. May be time to get my hands properly dirty... :D PS - I was going to direct link to the RAVE download, but decided not to as no one ever seems to do that - they just tell people to Google it. Is it against forum rules?

Eek. Ok.. anything I can do manually to ensure it's in neutral? Or is it a mechanic jobby?

Incidentally the message "TRANSFER NEUTRAL" has appeared two or three times, but I put it down to low battery voltage confusing the BECM.

Will sticking a fuse in slot 11 not select transfer neutral? I will get around to it, but it's not immediately vital.. I need a charge in the battery more. :-)

1995 Range Rover HSE - Some issues to overcome

It's been a few days since my last post, but I've finally made some progress with my main issue; the battery drain. Thought I'd better post an update, should anyone have the same issue... It turns out the RF receiver wasn't the cause of my problem, though it may not have been helping so I've...

Got the panel off and unplugged the antenna so we'll see how she goes.

1995 Range Rover HSE - Some issues to overcome

I've read there's supposed to be an LED near the gear lever which signifies the BECM being awake, but I can't see one. Any clue as to exactly where this should be? Also, I've tried to remove the panel this morning to get to the RF receiver and have already broken one plastic clip, so before I...

1995 Range Rover HSE - Some issues to overcome

After doing a shed-load of searching and reading of various threads on this forum, some a few years old now, I'm starting to think I may have this old-style RF receiver issue which is waking up the car all night & all day long. Also 700mA appears to be a normal draw when the car is "awake" and...

1995 Range Rover HSE - Some issues to overcome

Not wanting to sound pedantic, but it won't be in K, it'll be in MB. My old 1988 Amiga 500 had 512KB of memory and that's been extinct for a decade. :D Admittedly I've never come into contact with an Inspiron 2600, but I have dismantled many other models of Dell laptop and in my 10 years as an...

1995 Range Rover HSE - Some issues to overcome

You can change mostly anything, but Dells are a P.I.T.A as they only accept Dell parts. Are you referring to the RAM? In which case it'd be 128 MB standard SDRAM module, upgradeable to 512 MB. Fairly old school by today's standards though - won't be able to run anything more than XP. That...

Thanks buddy.. I also just found this page which Sirus linked to in another thread, so I'm having a read. http://www.rangerovers.net/repairdetails/becm/index.html. I mean Christ, I service laptops for a living.. this can't be that tricky!

1995 Range Rover HSE - Some issues to overcome

Mmm.. I hope not. Ok, well what is this BECM? Can I safely disconnect it to see if that's the issue, or will the car explode if I connect the battery with those fuses out?

1995 Range Rover HSE - Some issues to overcome

I am now, yeah. But I don't know enough to figure this out.. unfused circuits, BECM issues.. it's all starting to sound more and more like I should take to my local Land Rover specialists (Fortune 4x4 in Laindon). I reckon I gave it a good go with my limited mechanical knowledge! You guys...

1995 Range Rover HSE - Some issues to overcome

Well, I've just been out there, removed the big red cable from the first nut, a skinny cable from the second nut, which I assume is all you need to do to disconnect the alternator? But I'm still reading a 0.95A then shortly after a 0.70A current. Sent from my X10i using Tapatalk

1995 Range Rover HSE - Some issues to overcome

I tried removing every fuse again today, but no joy. I even "replaced" each fuse on the front seat fusebox with the multimeter, to see how much current was being drawn through that circuit. The only one which came close to 700mA was the interior light circuit, (fuse 15 I think) but that was...

1995 Range Rover HSE - Some issues to overcome

Looking at your Battery Drain - A few ideas thread, 0.7A would suggest an interior light, but the ones I can see are all off - I guess I'm looking for a hidden light (glove box / vanity mirror / etc)?

1995 Range Rover HSE - Some issues to overcome

Just took the beast of a battery back out to the car, connected the negative terminal, stuck the multimeter on Amps and put it between the positive terminal and positive cable. Initially got a reading of 0.95A (950mA) then after about 10-15 seconds it dropped to 0.70A (700mA) and held, I'm...

1995 Range Rover HSE - Some issues to overcome

Ok - after charging all night (from about 5pm yesterday) the battery's now reading 12.86V before I've attached it to the car, so I'm thinking it's not a duff battery or a dead cell. I'll reattach when I get a chance today and re-do the tests in Amps, not mA, and on a full battery, not a flat...

Yeah, but this time I was using the 10A circuit on the meter, which still works. Sadly the meter is bust, but it's just a fuse - I can replace that no probs. My fault for blowing it!
