    Defender thefts on the news

I'm looking at a Scorpion Track from MobileZone Vehicle Tracking. At £289 fully fitted and with a £150 per year or £350 for life subscription it's pricy but effective. I had to put one on my caravan or I couldn't insure it! It works really well though and I have every confidence in it. I have...

    Small progress

Oh! Forgot to say your 90 looks great! I cant help but think that chequer plate on the sills is 'gilding the lily'. Surely rock/tree sliders would be better and would stop car door damage in supermarket car parks. Keep up the good work!

    Small progress

I go to an independant every time. There are a couple of good ones around here (Luton) but there are others elsewhere. Many are staffed by LR trained guys turned enthusiasts and they are great. When the steering box failed in an earlier Disco they (Autoland in Houghton Regis) were half the LR...

why are defenders still going missing!?

Mind you. My 1988 defender (Actually a 110 CSW) usually had a half-starved German Shepherd running loose in it!:D

why are defenders still going missing!?

Has anyone got any data on what the predominant age/Reg range of the stolen defenders is? I had a 1988 defender that had no security to speak of but my current 2002 defender 90 has a LR factory fitted Thatcham allarm and imobiliser. Surely that must deter some thieves? Any thoughts?

    New Defender

When they bring out a new Disco the prices of the previous ones plummet. It might be worth buying one of the last (current shape) defenders if the prices fall in the same sort of way. I'm not sure if I like the new model. It definately looks like a LandRover but nothing like a Series or Defender.

    Aaargh! Hub bolt missing!

So right Top Drive! I was lucky this time but there's always another!

    Aaargh! Hub bolt missing!

Well after a few weeks of soaking it with plus gas I finally plucked up the courage to give it a go. It was sheared below the level of the hub so I couldn't have got mole grips on it. I didn't bother taking the wheel or drive member off at all. I simply pilot drilled it with an 1/8" cobalt...

    Panel repair or replace?

It's probably the smartest looking car in the region as it is! Why not just reprotect (etch prime) the bare areas and leave it as it is?!
  12. Drookit Dug

    What primer?

    Etch deffo!

    Leaks!

There is a Defender water ingress manual available that details all the problem zones and what to do. I downloaded one after a search on this site so you could do the same. It tells you exactly where to look if you are experiencing water ingress and what to do. It is an official Landrover...

    Trailer dash light

They are right. The trailer repeater is supposed to flash once then stop if it doesn't detect a trailer or continue if a trailer is plugged in and the corresponding indicator works ok

    Defender door mechanism problem!

    Lucky they weren't seized too!

    sound insulation queries...

'toeragstruckmats' on eBay do great rubber matting. I've just bought some for the back of my 90 and it was cheap and easy to cut to fit exactly. I finished it off with a 900mm section of edge trim from Wickes and it looks great!

    wheel and tyre packages

I got an eBay set in a similar size for £315 on a decent set of modulars. Be patient and take your time or spend £700+ for a new set

    Had it a month now!

Well Iv'e had my defender a month now so added some mods. First; Some Insa Dakar Muds on steels (Thanks Speedynick - eBay). Then; Britpart fold-up rear seats (Inside out 4x4 - eBay). Then; Rubber matting in the back (Toeragstruckmats - eBay) and finally this week; A new door lock switch (MPS...
