According to RAVE, your missing fuse 8 (30A) is for phone, amplifier, cig lighter, radio, heating and ventilation + air con. There should be a spare 30A in one of the sockets or under the bonnet. try one and see if any of the items above work..............

The fuse numbers should be shown on a diagram on the undesride of the fuse box lid

It doesn't sound as if the repair guy is a complete bodge monkey, he could after all have just said to bugger off. The repair to the 'o' rings seems to have worked but I'm at a loss as to how he could have buggered the blower fans (both of them at that) in the process

Have a look at Fuse 34 in the engine compartment - you never know.
