Is it possible for the heater matrix to leak coolant into the air ducts. I ask because in the last couple of days, as soon as the engine gets to temperature and the heater starts to blow warm air, the car quickly mists up, predominantly on the N/S, and there is the distinct whiff of coolant in the air.

May be worth checking the air cond condensor outlet pipes aren't blocked as if they are the water builds up in the main heater pipes. Look under the car just above the front of the gear box sump, there are 2 small rubber outlets that need a prod once in a while. They look like the things you used to buy from Woolworths to hang up tea towels !

Also check the seal around the pollen filters as these leak water onto the filter and then steam up the windows

i did the drains (together with the sunroof) not long ago, defo not them. This is definitely coolant IN the flow of air rather than there being dampness in the car and the warm air raises humidity levels to the point where misting occurs. The coolant smell is the giveaway its just that I cannot fathom how it would get from the matrix into the duct

easily possible, like all cars the air has to pass through the matrix to carry the heat.if it springs a leak as a mist/steam it will be carried into the heater duct.
