My 2.5DT used to be an auto and it would do 23 - 24 mpg or down to 18 - 20 towing a caravan. I had it converted to a manual now it does 26 - 28 mpg or down to 22 - 24 towing a caravan or trailer. I find it better to drive now its a manual and better for towing. My old RR classic with a 200tdi...
Welcome fatmatt, yeah its normal as well as cleaning up all the oil leaks, it was very clever ploy by land rover cos when there are no oil leaks it means that the landy has run dry and needs servicing urgently. You'll soon understand how it all works in landy world.
Welcome hilly01, sorry to hear about your plight of finding a bodged rusty chassis, however there's a few chassis makers advertise in the various land rover magazines so if you get a new galvanised one at least you've got a sound basis to start with. Good luck.
