Early Series III diesel - do I buy it?

I've been offered an early siii diesel for a ton. No MoT, but it is tax exempt. It drives around on private tracks ok. Anything I need to know/check for or should I just go for it?

MOT Points of Interest and differences

Mine went through last year with the seats and belts taken out of my 300tdi. MoT tester thought it was damn cheeky but it passed with about four pages of yellow warnings :O Still working my way through the rust, but should be back to 7 seats shortly :blabla:

running your car on vegtable oil

I think TD5's are based on the lucas type pump which seems much less suited to veggie oil. Could be an urban myth though :)

    seat switches

I've taken mine apart and cleaned. It's not a job for the faint hearted as there are small ball bearings and springs in there. The actual internals of the switch are quite basic if it's the same one - loads of potential for arcing when switching so all the contacts become fouled. A bit of...

    Loud generator-like noise

I had this so I agree with the above. Got one off ebay in the end for 70 quid.

    Cheap tyre supplier

I used Tyres Online | Mobile Car Tyre Fitting | Event Tyres mobile installers. Check online though there is a lot of competition and some good offers to be had at the moment from the usual installers.

Bleedin' alarm going off - any quick disable on a 300tdi

After the alarm has gone off, when I go out there click the unlock button and open the door I get fast blinking and hazards flashing. It's been a few days since it went off, but did it four times today. I've done a quick check of the door sensors and they seem ok (returning ok etc) with a...

Bleedin' alarm going off - any quick disable on a 300tdi

hmm, good point. just tried it and the alarm still goes off. Sounds like one of the door/bonnet sensors may be dodgy.

Bleedin' alarm going off - any quick disable on a 300tdi

Anyone got a simple sensible way of disabling the alarm, damn things keeps going off when it wants too and I have to leave it unlocked most of the time. I would still like to use the remote to unlock the doors (not that half the locks work anyway - darn lock springs). Adrian disco 300tdi '95

Traced the fault in the end - was the ignition switch. Everything now works just fine :)

Auto start - and keep starting

Took the switch apart tonight (not as difficult as I thought it would be) and everything in there is fine. Nothing broken, no worn contacts and no corrosion either - a perfect switch. This means the problem is somewhere else. Is the solenoid on the starter a replaceable item or is it a whole...

Auto start - and keep starting

It's a 300TDI. Everything still starts and initially I thought this was a one off thing... as when the engine is cold it starts fine only engaging the starter motor when the key is in position III. However, once the engine is running and hot you can hear the starter kick in. Once it's hot the...

Auto start - and keep starting

Checked and everything seems ok and I can follow both wires back to the loom without nicks or getting a shock myself :) . I'm gonna try to take the ignition switch apart to see if there is something wrong in there. Looks like a sealed unit (the black switch at the back of the steering lock...
