    Horn not working

No, I don't know if the MG YRC100300 is compatible - the airbag plug looks different on the ones I just looked at. Putting XRC100390 in to eBay search gives me a good choice with quite a few at £35 to £40.

This question is a wind up.

    new to landy

Hi John. Welcome to the forum. It would help a lot if you could give the year and engine type of your Freelander. Are you topping up the coolant/water at all? If so, how much?

    Horn not working

I did this job on mine last weekend. The symptoms were exactly the same as yours. I got one with the part number XRC100390 from ebay for £23 posted. Care needs to be taken because the first step is removal of the airbag on the steering wheel. The advice in Haynes and from the Land Rover...

What have you done to your Freelander today

MY FL1 horn wasn't working from the steering wheel buttons. The horn would blip if I tried to remote lock the doors with one door open so I thought it was a fair bet that the fuse and relay were OK. Based on the collective wisdom here I went for the rotary coupler. The price of a new unit was...

    Green lane GPS

It can also be done using Viewranger and GPX files on a smart phone using OS maps. The GPX files can be plotted on the phone or downloaded from a PC. Viewranger also records your track which can then be exported as a GPX to share with others. GPX is a common route/track plot file format.

TD4 wont start AFTER a run out. First start of the day always first time. Y reg.

IF you are worried about dirt the best two methods for keeping your TD4 engine clean enough are: 1. Keep to the oil change schedule. Oil is designed to collect dirt and hold it in suspension. If you leave the oil in too long the oil becomes saturated and can no longer hold on to it - and it...

    Wanted Project Motorbike Wanted

I have had success with a couple of old XT600s. If you keep an eye on ebay you can bag one for £500. Everything is agricultural and pretty much bomb proof and you won't struggle to find spares and consumables which are cheap. Fairly capable offroad and an absolute hoot on twisty A and B roads...

    Freelander engine part identification required...

A complete punt - but I reckon the plastic thermostat housing warped from the heat and is now leaking so it needs replacing. Perhaps the garage told him the A/C pump and alternator need to come off to get to it. That's my guess until the OP comes back and lets us all know.

    Hi I'm New

Welcome to the forum and your Freelander. If the gears are selecting fine (especially 1st at a standstill) don't worry too much about the low clutch pedal. Mine is the same and I have got used to it now and it hasn't changed in a few thousand miles. . You should research the VCU (viscous...

Evening all Newbie with a question.....

If the bottom end survived the initial runaway and the pistons didn't start welding themselves to the bores I would replace the turbo (which will probably be the source of the oil) and take it from there. Carefully. The turbo might not be the cause of the runaway - although most of the other...

    What are my chances....

Based on experience of other cars overheating, the head gasket is the first to go as the temperature climbs. Then the block expands with the heat and starts to grip the pistons and they start binding and you "loose power". Actually you don't loose power, it just gets diverted to destroying the...

    First time Landrover owner

No. I got mine changed because the rubber isolating the bearings from the mounts was split and shot on both front and rear. I had a worrying knocking coming through the floor on tight turns. The guy that did it was a Land Rover specialist and he did say the bearings were usually graunching and...

    First time Landrover owner

Hi and welcome to your Freelander. If yours is still 4WD you should learn about the Viscous Coupling Unit (VCU) that sits between front and rear drive. Learn what a One Wheel Up Test is and why you should do that from time to time and why all 4 tyres have to be the same diameter. Not knowing...

    Pressure washer recommendations

Hmmm, maybe one of these petrol driven bad boys? £240. Wolf 200 BAR, 3000psi, 6.5HP Heavy Duty Petrol Driven Pressure Power Washer (sorry - link not working but put that in to Amazon).

Prime the diesel injection system. Even a tiny air leak will see all that diesel drained back to the tank.

Freelander 1 Had my drive train knocking diagnosed

Got the propshaft hanger bearings replaced today and all the clunking has gone. Drive is a lot smoother at 1,500 rpm too - I was changing gear out of that zone because of the vibration. I got an oil change and the filters done at the same time (oil, air, fuel and crankcase). Top service and...

    No oil!

Comparing the last two cars I had prior to this one, both about 14 years old and both with about 120K miles, I beg to differ on the undertray. Both were VW Golfs, one with an undertray and one without. Every single fecking nut and bolt on the one without was rusty. The one with was fine. The...

    Steel plates for wheels?

I like the 15" wheels suggestion but I would leave the tyres on. Flatten them just before loading and pump them up just after offloading.

    Noobi

I have done about 3,000 miles in my TD4 2001 since I bought it a months ago and the oil level has hardly moved. Are you getting smoke at all? My previous was a Golf Mk4 GTI Turbo that used about the same as yours. I think the turbo oil seals were crapped up. When I had it remapped it was...
